Leo, if you read carefully, you'll see that it was bad luck and humidity that cocked things up, not the maker. I occasionally fall foul of lady luck and the environment, too.

A real bummer, Keith. As Leo points out, I had a similar experience a while ago (involving fish glue and high humidity) but that was with the back rather than the soundboard. I won't try teaching my grandmother's brother to suck eggs but, suffice it to say, I stuck it all together again and it survives to this day! Best of luck with yours!

I think I live to fight another day! Rehumidify the top (put it in the bathroom for a few hours)!! And the joint has closed up again. Untitled by keith ambridge, on Flickr Then knock up a few cam clamps and re glue. Untitled by keith ambridge, on Flickr I'm not going to be tempted to look until tomorrow morning!

By the way, my go bars were as cheap as chips! I'm using Roman Blind rods. Cost me €15 for enough to cut 60 go bars!

So far, most days I've been able to acheive a major part of the build process. Today I completed my first dovetail neck joint! I'm glad I'd watched a you tube video from Blues Creek Guitars (he does go on a bit but it's good information)! A couple more steps acomplished today, binding/purfling and neck shaping. This brings me closer to something I'm undecided on, the finishing! I've had a very nice result with nitro cellulose on a Hofner bass that I restored but it tied up workshop space and I don't think it did my lungs any good! French polishing is tempting, I can do it at home in the evenings, everything is available here in Greece, it's not expensive! However, I appreciate it takes quite some skill so I'd have to do some practice! Rubbed oil finish. My brother has just sent me an article by Kevin Aram that I must read and absorbe! Anyway, todays pictures! Untitled by keith ambridge, on Flickr Untitled by keith ambridge, on Flickr Untitled by keith ambridge, on Flickr

Well, it's just about ready for finish and it's going to be Nitro Cellulose. Cough splutter! I should have chosen a simpler bridge shape to mask off! Untitled by keith ambridge, on Flickr

Thanks Dave, I'm so pleased with how this is coming along and I owe a lot of thanks to my brother Simon, and WhatsApp!! It's been a kind of distance learning thing with the master looking over your shoulder all the time! This could be a new way of looking at apprenticeships!
