I've been listening to this guy in the run up to going to see him next Friday in Gatehouse of Fleet, I think he is fantastic, great mix of old and new, fantastic songwriting and guitar playing.....

Enjoyed the vids Mark - what long skinny fingers he's got! Should be a good gig - have fun! Keith

Mark, apparently the 'latest thing' is to take a tape measure to gigs and ask the artists to measure their finger span as a proportion of the length of their longest finger or something

His songs sound very interesting, Mark and I really enjoyed that first track. I think the guitar sound on the second video was a bit too harsh for my taste, but again the song itself seemed a good one. Hope you have a great time at the gig

Have to agree there Martin - but it is at least in part a result of how the Songs from the Shed series is made. Very simply! The bloke just uses a not especially fancy digital camera to record sound as well as vision, and doesn't process the vids in any way. It's an interesting approach, and I always enjoy the Shedvids for their warts n all result. Seems to be a popular and in-demand place to play. With bands, the loud instruments go at the back of the shed, and the quiet ones nearer the camera -simples! Keith

Hi Martin, agreed on the second vid, the sound quality isn't great, but I love the song. If you have the spotify app go and listen to the studio version, its great Both of those are from an CD of Traditional material, but his own songs are very much in the tradition too, I hear lots of different influences like Nic Jones, Martin Carthy etc etc but he still manages to put his own style into the mix.

I have exchanged a lot of emails with Alasdair in the past and he is really kind with his replies. My favourite is Farewll Sorrow.
