Well everyone else seemed to be doing it so I thought I’d join in too The CD has 12 solo acoustic guitar instrumental tracks (comprised of 12 of my own compositions and one traditional tune) using 8 different tunings and played on five different De Faoite guitars made by my own fair hand. The pieces have been recorded by me at various stages over the last 11 years and the tracks have been mastered by my Folk Club band mate Peter Cross – I’m very happy with the result. It’s called “Diamonds in the Rough” as the recordings include string and fret squeaks and the occasional intakes of breath – yes it was that exciting. The CD costs £7 (£8 including postage & packing for UK and Europe) and I’ll be bringing some along to the Forum meeting in Halifax. I’m in the process of transcribing the pieces and for £10 you can have the CD plus pdf’s of the tabbed/transcribed pieces e-mailed to you when they are complete. pm me if you are interested or want more details.

I thought you'd been a bit quiet on here lately! Can't resist a CD of intakes of breath - positively inspirational! Yup, I need one of those Dave - will happily relieve you of one at HB8 and advance order the email transcriptions. This is very exciting! Keith

Oh dear you'll have me thinking about it again. I keep being asked at gigs but I have an aversion to hard work and practice!

+1 for CD and PDFs (the latter of which will, I know, just gather dust - a bit like my gym membership... )

What did you play these tunes on? Brian - Six of the tracks are played on "Samhain" (cedar/maple Grand Concert sized), two on "An Feá Caol" (cedar/pear Terz), two on "Féileacán Iúr" (White spruce/Yew Concert sized now with Ben Walker), and one each on "Treebeard" (European spruce/Brazilian Rosewood Baritone) and "Toby" (all Cuban Mahogany Concert sized). +1 for CD and PDFs (the latter of which will, I know, just gather dust - a bit like my gym membership... ) Leo- how much dust is there in your computer where it stores the files

Dave
I'm looking forward to the CD, but surprised that you didn't include the piece you wrote for your father ("Arthur's Waltz"), which I heard on another forum (although the link seems to have gone defunct, now).
Was a lovely tune, as I remember.

Was a lovely tune, as I remember. Kym Kym, I thought hard about including that one but decided to wait - maybe for the next CD. Partly because there are already two other waltzes on the CD and also there are some other "family waltzes" I've written - wedding waltzes for two of my four daughters - and it would be nice to have them all on one CD. "Arthur's Waltz" is actually here on the Plucky Duck.

I'm going to get some books of the tabbed/transcribed pieces printed similar to those that were done for Mark Thomson's "Travellers Tales" and that Keith did for the Butterfly project. These are likely to cost £20 (pdf files to be e-mailed are also included in this price but not the CD). If anyone attending next weekends Forum meet in Halifax wants to buy one let me know.

John Prine's Diamonds in the Rough has always been a favourite album of mine. I imagine yours is a bit different!
