John Prine's Diamonds in the Rough has always been a favourite album of mine. I imagine yours is a bit different! Mine's rougher

Just to clarify things a little. The book will be sold as a package including the pdf files so there is a hard copy for reference of all the pieces plus notes on the CD, instruments, the tunes and playing notes as well as individual electronic files for each piece to give another study dimension. The CD is not included in this package. So in terms of buying at Halifax the options are: CD £7 CD plus e-mailed pdf transcriptions £10 Book plus e-mailed pdf transcriptions £20 CD plus book plus e-mailed pdf transcriptions £27 Anyone not coming to Halifax that wants one of these options please pm me and I'll work out appropriate extra p&p costs. Simples

Well everyone else seemed to be doing it so I thought I’d join in too The CD has 12 solo acoustic guitar instrumental tracks (comprised of 12 of my own compositions and one traditional tune) using 8 different tunings and played on five different De Faoite guitars made by my own fair hand. The pieces have been recorded by me at various stages over the last 11 years and the tracks have been mastered by my Folk Club band mate Peter Cross – I’m very happy with the result. It’s called “Diamonds in the Rough” as the recordings include string and fret squeaks and the occasional intakes of breath – yes it was that exciting. The CD costs £7 (£8 including postage & packing for UK and Europe) and I’ll be bringing some along to the Forum meeting in Halifax. I’m in the process of transcribing the pieces and for £10 you can have the CD plus pdf’s of the tabbed/transcribed pieces e-mailed to you when they are complete. pm me if you are interested or want more details. Pleased that you decided to take the plunge Dave 😀 I will sort it out with you when I'm back from Spain at the end of October 😎 Cheers Phil

Please could I have a Cd Dave, like the artwork, mini sand dunes on the back? Rob - of course. It looks like sand it doesn't it. In fact it's a photo of snow taken in 2009 in a field just up the road from me in the valley where I live,

I finally managed to get real life out of the way for long enough to get to properly listen to Dave's new CD. It is obviously one that will merit many listens, and will need those many listens to properly appreciate the quality of the compositions and the music making. So just by way of some very brief initial thoughts .... It is a very varied album of high quality. Terz and baritone guitars in the mix provide variety along with a wide mix of genres. A very strong start to the album with "Samhain" - a lovely celtic feel and the complex structure enhances the qualities of the track. "An Fea Caol" for me has strong hints of bygone times and has a haunting quality. "Treebeard" has some delicious full deep tones from the baritone and "Little Lucy's" has silky runs of bass and treble notes to savour. "The Garron Brook" is full of feeling and a strong sense of mood, while "Diamond House" is beautifully melodic and wistful. A really strong finish to the CD too, with "Cold Bath Lane" being both very different in musical style, and very moody, followed by "Water", a more complex and fascinating composition drawing on many influences - a track that really needs repeated listening I think. There is not a weak track on the album, and running throughout is a precision in the production of notes and tones produced by Dave - in which regard the CD also proves a fine presentation to the listener of the high quality of De Faoite guitars. I cannot recommend the CD highly enough. Mark

Thanks Mark. I meant to buy a copy of this in Halifax and somehow forgot — probably in a drunken haze. I'll have to order it by post!

Dave
Still waiting for the CD, but I've just had the first listen to the MP3s at work. Love the variety in the tunes and the passion in a couple of the more unusual ones in particular. Well done!
Looking forward to trying some of these myself.

Got my copy yesterday and have listened a few times in the car. Fantastic stuff, a great advert for not only Dave's instruments but his ever-tasteful and highly competent playing. Really enjoying it.
