I try to resist looking at banjo threads especially when they say 'banjer' in the title  Having said that today I weakened and dipped in. What a beauty @martin - stunning!! I have had a soft spot for these banjo's since I saw this great video made of course by Matt Miles: Matt Miles of course did the superb Brook Guitars video some years before which is worth checking out if anyone has not seen it. These banjo's sound great to me especially when played gently and melodically. Well done Martin  Phil |

Hey Martin, now that you've had it for a couple of weeks, I can completely understand if you've grown tired of the Romero and want to move it on. As it happens, and totally unrelated - I really like Romero banjos....

Lovely instrument- The big problem is that banjos and by default their players get bad press.Its not a joke instrument as anyone who gets into it soon realises.Part of the problem revolves around the number of nasty instruments floating round from the far east many of which sound rubbish and then end up on e bay after the owner and his or her family have given up or abandoned the instrument faced with relationship breakdown.
banjo hangout has a lot of excellent used instruments for sale and builders like Pisgah or Leon ballard make excellent instruments at very reasonable prices too.

Most of the ribbing on here is very much tongue in cheek, and there are a few of us who play quite seriously and love it.
Have you played a Pisgah? I really like the look of them. I had a Ballard semi-fretless (I got from gavdav on here) which was a really beautifully made instrument. I just couldn't get on with the brass plate, but I'd order another of Leon's banjos in a heartbeat - such lovely quailty. |
