For the last couple of years Steve Tilston and Jez Lowe have been doing occasional gigs and tours together, backed by the lovely album Janus Game.
They've just started going out with double bas player Hugh Bradley and accordion player Chris Parkinson (dubbed the Sometimes). Last night was their first gig — apparently that had never rehearsed all together! However, it was a great evening. The four of them create a great sound, Bradley's bass is just right and Parkinson is one of the best, understated, players I know.
Tilston and Lowe composed the tunes on the new album together. There are lots of choruses and so if you see them in a decent club you'll have a good sing song as well.
I haven't enjoyed an evening better than this all year.
