Ben, aka jackorion, played a superb hour long set for us in Nether Stowey yesterday evening. Having recently given up his day-job he is now a full-time musician so I thought I'd get in quick and book him before he gets famous and his fee goes up too much! He used his Martin OM-28V through an AER Compact 60, which resulted in a great sound. Occasional and very subtle use of a Strymon delay pedal effectively enhanced some guitar passages here and there. Vocals also through the AER, and the sound was just right to fill our hall (a badminton court really!)and with some to spare if the punters were to have got restless - which they didn't! In fact the punters very well behaved and listened attentively and appreciatively to Ben's songs - mostly his own, but an occasional cover here and there - including an excellent "God only knows" as an encore. His relaxed and engaging between song banter connected well with the audience, most of whom were twice his age or more. In fact Ben's age was quite a subject for speculation - I suspect some of Glyn's groupies began to find their allegience divided.... Ben's accomplished fingerstyle playing and very listenable voice were much commented upon afterwards. It was good to meet up with Ben again, and especially to see and hear him perform at close quarters in a fairly intimate "listening" setting. Support was provided, as you might guess, from Glyn and me. Younger daughter Rosie took some pics and a couple of vids which I'll put up before too long. Thanks Ben, it was great to have you with us. Here's to the next time, all the best with the gigs, and with the new CD shortly to be "properly" released. Keith

Great photos Keith - although I maybe should've done an extra button up on my shirt for the 'floor' one!
Thanks again for inviting me to play and for you and your family's hospitality - it was a real pleasure to play and I hope to return again at some point.
And I really enjoyed both your duo set with Glyn and your solo 'poignant' set - I'll have to track down the reg meurous song you played and what was the richard thompson one as well?
thanks again :-)

I'll get back to you Ben re the songs you asked about. And Glyn's groupies will have enjoyed the unbuttoned look I'm sure...

Very nice playing, singing and songwriting, and what seems like a nice plugged-in sound from the Martin. Would be nice to know about the sound set-up.Oops, read O' Carolan's OP once more. What pick up/mike is in the Martin?

What pick up/mike is in the Martin? Hi Dobro, I've got a Lr Baggs Anthem SL in my Martin. That was going through a strymon el capistan tape delay (used at the end of Been Away So) and then into my AER Compact 60. Vocal mic was a AKG D5 (which I find to be more open sounding than a shure SM58). Cheers, Ben

Keith Thanks for posting. I think I can hear the Bert Jansch influence in there. The Martin and Ben's singing sound great together.
