I did a spot in Leadenham a year or two back , an open air folk festival- and I emailed the ' soundman ' prior to the show to tell him that my Alhambra acoustic had a passive pickup and so required pre-amping in order to sound good. I also told him that I'b be joined by another player mid-way through. Well, the arse....I can't think of a more descriptive term......didn't put me through one and it sounded terrible. He also didn't provide a second microphone for my partner and so the audience were treated to this bloke fumbling about between us amid screaming feedback. So.......... I bought myself one of these; www.boss.info/global/products/ad-10/Terrific. Don't go without one.

That looks the business A little on the pro/pricey side for me and my needs, but I thought the sound on the youtube video did seem pretty natural, and it offers a lot of control too.

Yes. Have you noticed how hardware kit like this, guitar pedals and such, is getting really expensive ? Not so long ago you could have bought a nifty guitar synth for 300 notes. Now it's 250 for a pedal of low complexity.

Pricey! Boss stuff is always top quality though.
I've got a Fishman one, which is ok. Keep meaning to try an LR Baggs or a K&K preamp with an XLR out. The K&K should in theory work well with the pickups I've got.

Headway. Made in the U.K. superb quality :-) Designed in the UK, built in Korea. At least that's what it says on my EDB-2.

I'm sure we've hd this conversation before, but what are the K&K pickup users out there using as DIs/Preamp? I use a Fire Eye Red Eye preamp made in Texas and am extremely happy with it. I think they are similar to the Orchid preamp which is made here in the UK. I've heard very good things about them too but haven't used one myself.

My ' acoustic ' setup is now a passive Schatten into the AD-10 amplified by a Roland Cube Street which can double as a monitor. Remember the days of a half-pint of stout and a Levin Goliath without a case ?

I have the same conversation overtime. Would you like me to put you in the list and I'll get in touch when they re ready? Me: Yes. Never hear anything again! I suspect this is another business which is impacted by near retirement.

andyhowellI think John builds them in batches, so if they're not in stock, you have to wait until he makes the next batch. My muting DI box was delivered the next day but I had to wait about 2 months (over Christmas) for my pre-amp to be built. Worth the wait IMHO. Iain
