Designed in the UK, built in Korea. At least that's what it says on my EDB-2. True. Accuracy is not my main point :-) Still, this a UK company and one which seems to understand what acoustic sounds like :-) And they're extremely helpful and only a phone call away! I've supplied a number of Headway pre amps with my instruments and have had nothing but praise. Cheers Gary

Yep I agree garynava. When I commissioned by guitar from Adrian Lucas I decided to go with the Headway Pickup simply because the acoustic sound of the preamps was so good. The pickup sounds very good to me and are mercifully free of piezo quack (until the batteries start to run down). Apparently they don't use thin film or individual crystals but the coaxial cable that Headway use. A musical mate of mine is friends with John Littler and we keep talking about going down to see him. Headway have been very good to me over the years.

It's about time I launched a song or to at ' The Plucky Duck ' so I'll take the opportunity of an extended solstace holiday to record a couple with the Boss AD-10. Christmas party at the club on the 28th, incidentally, for anybody wanting to inflict their own mangled lyrics and home-made boxes upon the innocent and the inebriated

That looks like one nifty little unit. I've not seen one before. I use a Baggs Venue DI and recently did a comparison review of that and my Baggs Para Acoustic DI and Fishman Platinum Pro EQ.

I've also enjoyed using a D-Tar Solstice two channel preamp / blender in a multi source pickup system. Great quality sound, phantom power, phase switch, DI / amp outs (per channel if needed).

As far as pickups go, I'm now using a K&K Trinity in conjunction with a DiMarzio Black Angel (to add a bit of oomph in the bottome end). The K&K feeds via a stereo TRS cable into the K&K twin channel external preamp (which on its' own isn't that great I have to say) but then I take individual channel outs from the K&K preamp into two channels on a Bose T1. The DiMarzio goes straight into a third channel on the Bose T1. The T1 is a great little unit, which means that I then have complete control over each individual pickup component (Pure Mini, Microphone & DiMarzio) with full parametric eq on every component. These components are then blended into the master out from the Bose T1 which can then ship to the FOH sound system, and if required also to a stage amp for monitoring purposes. (Or if I am playing a smaller venue, straight to the Bose L1 Model II tower).
This is the same set up that Mike Dawes has used, and if it's good enough for Mike it's good enough for me!

Not tried the Orchid Acoustic Preamp, although I'm tempted to get one. I have two of John's DIs and his Amp Interface (Reamp), and they are all stunning quality rivalling anything far more expensive from the likes of Radial etc. Always had very prompt service and communication from him. But I've never tried to order the Pre...
