My occasional series of easy sofa noodling tutorials continues with a basic arrangements two traditional tunes, She Moved Through The Fair and In the Pines (which both use almost the same notes in almost the same order !) Just looking at my page access stats DADGAD by is by far the most popular of these alternative tunings! There is a basic tab to download here

Nicely done, Andy. I'll be following this as, despite the best attempts of many on this 'ere forum to educate me, DADGAD still leaves me befuddled...

Ooooh! Nice one Andy, and TABS too! Great choice of tunes for "that" DADGAD sound. A good demonstration too of how a great sounding tune can come from DADGAD without real strain on the fingers or big demand on technique. Leaving the player to concentrate on the feel of the music. Nice examples too of how an altered tuning leaves the door open for those variations on a phrase. Mark

Thanks I might give that a try.
I've never tried alternative tunings, I assume that my current strings will be fine as I'm only dropping a tone?

To answer my own question they sound fine, or more accurately I can't blame the strings for the sound....

Thanks I might give that a try. I've never tried alternative tunings, I assume that my current strings will be fine as I'm only dropping a tone? Yep. You shouldn't have a problem at all with DADGAD. Effectively you are only lowering the top two strings and the bass. In alternate tunings you have to watch the 3rd string if you continuously move from g to F (for example). But you will be fine.
