A member of my band is very interested in a Fylde Tenor Mandola for sale in Fife via the mandolin cafe, but wonders if anyone would be able to check it out for her, regarding general condition, playability, sound etc Bit of a long shot I know. Here is the link to the ad www.mandolincafe.com/ads/118238#118238Robbie

Strathmiglo is 26 miles from me, so it's quite doable. You might want to give me a specific list of things you'd like checked.

Oh wow, that’s cool, although 26 miles seems like a long way to me The lady who is interested in buying it (Beryl) is just a bit worried about about handing over that sort of money without playing it. I guess what she needs to know is : is it in good condition; is it playable, in terms of action and intonation; does it sound OK If you are serious about going over then I will put you in touch with Beryl- she is a lovely, lovely lady, and an absolute hoot in our band. She knows about Fylde, as her friend and another band member has a cottern and a bouzouki. I think she just wants to be reassured that she is getting a typically well made and great sounding Fylde. I'm quite happy to go over there Robbie. We're still exploring this land and that's somewhere we haven't been yet. The only proviso is that I would want to do it in daylight so it depends when the seller is available. By all means put me in touch with Beryl and we'll see what we can fix up.

Have messaged you and emailed Beryl. I am sure she will cover any expenses of yours, and if she forgets I will do so. I played a Fylde Mandola many years ago when it was my 40th Birthday. Went to Hobgoblin with the money and everything, but just slightly more than I had the money for. It was absolutely awesome. Robbie

Thanks to this wonderful forum, and the remarkable generosity of Breedlover, who travelled the 26 miles to try out this Mandola, my friend Beryl is now going to be the happy owner of a lovely Fylde in the new year. And I think Breedlover also made a new friend into the bargain!
Thanks Andy,
Robbie
