Good to have you back - esp with such a cracking set of build pics!
Can't believe it's 4 1/2 years since we did the Luthier Interview!

That's some beautiful walnut you have. I'm sorry to be thick but I didn't quite understand the second picture in the first post. Is that piece of walnut part of the final build? Thanks for posting.

Is it really? Just after I got married, before children and my bigger workshop
I cut the middle of the rosette ring out of that piece of walnut. It is the offcuts from the back that I have flipped over and joined together, I should be able to make a few rosette rings out of this

Oh wow, always wondered want happened to you Rich. I adore 12 String parlour Guitars, ever since I played a teeny tiny Brook Little Silver 12 String. Can’t wait to see (and hear?) what this one is like.
And I know what you mean about children, boy do they take up a lot of time!!

Happy new year everyone and all that. leoroberts I reverted to being a lurker for a while but I am still busying myself with making and fixing things with strings... I am just not very good at social media! The 12 string is coming along well alongside a few other builds. Christmas always seems to trigger a cold or similar man- ailment so I took a little extra time off before coming back to work but I am back in the swing of things now. Here the purflings are being glued onto the bindings. Its a bit confusing in the picture but the bindings are glued together in pairs with a string of teflon in between so they don't stick together, the binding is snakewood with black and white purfling underneath . I then tidy up and bend the binding Next I rout the binding channels and the end fillet slot... none of which I took photos of, it is hard taking photos while holing a router! but here is the fillet going in The binding purfling joins into the purfling in the fillet so the joints have to be mitre cut. It is hard to see but the purfling is cut at almost 45 degrees, the angle at the back of the guitar is a bit more than 90, at the top it's a bit more than 90 Binding goes on next, snakewood is a very pretty wood but it can be a pain to bend, sometimes it just wants to do it's own thing so it can take a bit of persuasion to get into shape, most binding can be done with just tape but this stuff took a good few clamps! Here it is all bound and cleaned up

On to the neck... I start with the fretboard, this gives me a nice accurate reference for the length of the neck shaft, the scale length is 628mm or 24.75" and the neck joins the body at the 12th fret. The board is planed and fretted, I'll shape it and radius it later on. That done I get started on the neck blank, the neck is sycamore/ maple, the two are very similar in this country, I didn't photograph much of the process but here is the neck and body with the mortice and tenon cut, the truss rod and carbon fiber channels cut and the bolt holes done. You might notice the picture is quite dark, my toddler son managed to change some settings on the camera and I don't know what they are so every picture I take now is a result of 10 tries to get the aperture or shutter speed or whatever setting it was back to normal! Carbon fiber reinforcements in, truss rod will go in tomorrow
