I'm a big fan of Ron, see him live many times. When he tours down under he tends to leave his band at home and just play with his Taylor guitar and is magical. One of the best times I saw him was the night before I got married at the Blue Mountains Blues Festival.

just before he released the album this was off or around that time there was a documentary on beeb 4 fri eve, half the great songwriters in the world seem to rate him, yet in the documentary he recalled a time he was down his local laundry and met a fan who asked hey aren't you Ron Sexsmith what are you doing in a laundry shop! apparently he almost had to take a loan or ask a big favour to get some big time producer like Bob Clearmountain to produce this album with the hope of getting long deserved recognition he deserves. .... sometimes think theres no justice in the world, the guys more talented than 90% of the charts. But somehow my lasting memory of the whole documentary was that he wasn't meant to make it, it just wouldn't work its not where he's destined to be? some people are front men some are backroom geniuses. Hopefully one of his amazing songs will get picked up by some relatively talentless idiot who will make millions and Ron will end up with a very meaningful cut.
That songwriters series was quite interesting, remember seeing Chris Difford doing "tempted" and him almost apologising for the fact he didn't normally sing the vocals, needless to say if he had always been a solo artist we may not have heard of him, but didn't he contribute significantly to numerous great pop songs, isn't he a great songwriter. Writing songs and what makes a good one fascinates me!
