Went to the folk club last night for the first time on months, and I'm glad I did. What a friendly, warm welcome from all those lovely people, and to top it all my friends' band was playing. Luckenbooth is a four-piece group consisting of two/three main singers, two guitarists (alternating on mandolin, bouzouki, whistle and low whistle), another whistle player and a fiddler. The inter-changability of the performers makes for a varied and interesting performance, and they all play very well with a great audience rapport.
The songs are mainly arrangements of traditional folk tunes, with some more modern offerings from the likes of Kate Rusby, Robin Laing and Amy McDonald.
Here's a clip of them in action from a couple of years ago:

Thats a good sound, Martin... looks like a roomy stage, too. Nice to see the raffle winner carrying her prize across - much to the, apparent, consternation of the whistle player

Sadly that's not my folk club Leo - just a clip from a couple of years back to give you an idea of the sound Looks more like a function in that clip...

Like the sound of them Martin. Did you do a turn at the Folk Club then - musically speaking that is?

I hope to. Ian Walker was there doing a floor spot with his banjo again - he really makes that thing socially acceptable, such is his talent for performing

That was at the Bully Inn, yes? What a nice wee place and very different from most folk clubs, in that they make their bookings purely on the tastes of the members rather than following trends. I've played at nearly every different venue for that club over the years and I think they have just the right place now. My own gig there back in Feb was very pleasant indeed.

Yes Alistair, that's it! I'm sorry I missed you up there (during my period of self-imposed exile). I've no excuse as I live less than two miles away It's a great wee club with good people - I just wish I could get out a bit more. Please let me know if you get the chance to play anywhere else up this way in the future and I'll try to come along
