I'm trying to find an inexpensive bending iron, I'm looking to get a good workshop going so I'm slowly gathering tools needed, starting with some of the more specialized ones, are there any good ones on the market that don't cost a fortune?

Have you thought about using a heating mat instead. One of the difficulties with a vending iron is that it can only heat a very small (10mm) section at one time. A heating mat can cook a whole couple of inches making curves smoother.
You can then make your vending iron out of whatever you like.

Welcome to the forum, Alan J - why not introduce yourself in the...ermmm...introductions section?

If you want to understand how to use a bending iron, I've made a few videos over the years: Nigel www.nkforsterguitars.com
