Just a quick plug for this band which we saw last night. Five young, very friendly, scarily talented musicians from Northern Ireland featuring Uilleann pipes, flute, whistles, guitar, harp, bodhran and female singer. They play many of their own vocal and instrumental compositions which are in the Irish folk tradition with a more contemporary twist, if that makes any sense. The singer has a gorgeous voice, in fact she's taken over from the lovely Cara Dillon as my favourite. She manages to play fabulous bodhran apparently effortlessly, whilst singing. The piper and flautist are breathtakingly good. The harpist adds a kind of rhythm to the whole proceedings whilst the guitarist is a really excellent player, clearly with some jazz influences. The sort of player that gets you, as it did with a few of us "guitarists" after the show, talking about having a great bonfire and chucking all our instruments on. It's the first time I've heard a McIlroy. I want one. Desperately.
Exhilarating: catch them if you can, but don't expect to get a good night's sleep afterwards. There'll be far too much adrenaline coursing through your veins.

Lovely stuff there Andy - really enjoyed the vids, thanks. Was it a plugged in gig or more of an acoustic thing? But you are so fickle - fancy turning over Cara for a younger model! Fine with me though - gives me more of a chance.... Keith

I'm not dumping Cara, just demoting her to a still very fine second place. More significantly, I want to dump my Lowdens for a McIlroy How fickle is that? Anyone got a spare £2695??

Enjoyed that Andy P , particularly the instrumental video in which I thought the guitar sound was superior. The first was ok but slightly quacky, still very nice though A guy at our folk club has a McIlroy, very nice but long scale. I emailed them in the summer of 2016 asking about the possibility of a shorter scale and he turned me down point blank. Of course they do one now, 25". Cheers Phil

After all the setup-issues with your Lowden, you really can't dump it..
