Hey everyone!
Here's a new video of a pretty stunning guitar from Lowden
Probably one of the best made guitars I've seen, with some amazing wood choices and a dark rich tone - I hope it comes across in the video but the low-end was really full and clear, and there were times where it was just sitting there underneath everything like a solid, toneful, foundation filling any gaps that needed filling without taking up too much space!
No checked shirt, but I think the purple t-shirt goes quite well with the woods on this guitar!!

As you say, jackorion, it looks the business - and sounded great, too. Not sure of the point of the curved fretboard extension - nor the half-fret that accompanies it. Is it even accessible?

I'll be honest in that I never went anywhere near that high on the fretboard - I get a nosebleed above the 7th fret!! I think it's a nice ornamentation and I suppose it gives you an extra high note if you need it... the heel on Lowdens is pretty small but the body is quite deep around that area so you'd definitely have to 'reach' for that note, but I'm sure I've seen Pierre Bensusan going up that high so it's worth it for some people!

Lovely looks (I even liked the look of the bevel, surprisingly), lovely sound. Very, very Lowdeny, which I love, though not everyone does. Could almost feel the bass even through my small PC speakers, and the overall sound was magnificent. Liked the close-up shots of the guitar while you carried on chatting. and yup, the shirt went v well with the woods! I think I'd best avoid playing one of these if I ever come across one as from the the sound on your vid, it could prove too tempting. Possibly might even be worth an arm and a leg; though in the interests of full disclosure I should point out that I think I'm starting to get arthritis in my knees, so I may not get enough for them anyway. Excellent video, excellent review. Keith

It was a serious guitar - like I said it was versatile and sounded good on a lot of different things (unfortunately my 'noodling' whilst we're setting up the cameras is not really broadcast quality but it gives me a chance to try out the guitars and speak with the rest of the team about my thoughts and theirs from out front as well) - but it really did sing with a 'Lowden' accent!

regarding the 'arm and a leg' as well - it's a pretty high price, but then you've got some top grade (and somewhat rare) tonewoods, lots of added 'craft' (the ebony headstock overlays, the bevel, the fingerboard extension and binding) and then you've got all the regular Lowden labour and care costs on top...
Could be someones one and only though very easily if you fell for it... I don't know what shop it went on to after us but keep an eye out for it!

I wonder if they'd like me to review it for them...... Keith I imagine it would take several months, if not years, to really get the lowdown on it and produce the video though...

Fabulous review, fabulous looking guitar! Is there a cheaper non-custom version without the bells and whistles, and how much?
Also, see you play an OM-28V, I haven't been able to find the V designation Martins in the EU, are they available here or did you have to order from the US?

Also, see you play an OM-28V, I haven't been able to find the V designation Martins in the EU, are they available here or did you have to order from the US? Hi Greg, I think the main 'parts' that contributed to the tone of this guitar were the body size and the woods - I assume you could order a F35 without the bevel etc and save some money, or look for a F model in similar woods - I suspect even the F25 (rosewood/cedar) would share some tonal characteristics with this model, but I think the higher headroom of redwood and the more dense madagascan rosewood gives the guitar a different tone... My Martin is 10 years old and most of the V series was discontinued about 3/4 years ago so only available second hand now, which is a shame as I think they were a really good series - some vintage specs and look without getting into the Authentic pricing which is your only option for a vintage OM now. Having said that, the current 're-imagined' OM28 standard is, internally, the same as the OM28v, but it has a different neck.

Thanks Jack. Yes, I've been using the Martin specwizard site to have a look at the differences between the older and newer models. Very tempting! www.martinrep.com/specwizard.htmlI think the V versions are still available from quite a few places in the US.

I think a few US shops have ordered custom shop models based on the old V series...
