Excellent. And I for one shall refrain from making any banjo jokes!

You have to admire such artistry. I prefer the mellowness of her sound, though.

I saw Abigail Washburn perform in a Nashville coffee shop a couple of years ago. She’s wonderful.

Very cool video. There are some videos of Molly Tuttle doing a variation of clawhammer style on guitar, for those less enthusiastic about the banjo. It sounds very good indeed. Would like to give it a go if I ever get time.

Here’s my friend Adam Hurt showing how wonderful a banjo can sound. Maybe I’m getting old but i get tired of all the anti banjo humour.

You're getting old You should also suggest to Adam that he doesn't sit directly under the extractor fan or let someone rub his head with a balloon next time he plans on making a video... Superb playing - and definitely shows off the fact that a banjo, despite what others say, can give different tones.

Love that - thanks. I'm with you on the banjo thing but I wonder if that is what it is all about. I wonder if this is simply a combination of a lot of things: of using a good instrument, of getting beautiful tone, of achieving the right balance of silence and sound, talent, of being inside the music, and probably other things that I don't know about. I wonder if this is about 'something like' playing music 'properly' if you know what mean. Is it what we term 'art'? I think you can get the same effect with some fine woodworking pieces e.g. James Krenov, Sam Maloof. I see it as something like an extra 'aura' that makes something that is more than the sum of all the parts. Am I making sense, or do I need to go and lie down... again? Or to use some west country parlance - 'proper job'. Anyway - thanks. Martin
