Recently I've been buying and selling some electric guitars, just for fun really, but was really hooked by something the other day that caught my attention.
A Fender 50s Classic Player strat in Shoreline Gold. It looked lovely, but reading the reviews made me think this could be something very special.
The store was selling it 2nd hand, so there was a good discount from new, and it was in great condition. It looks and feels wonderful to play, and the sounds are gorgeous - real vintage tone.
So, it came home with me....just need to clear space for it by shifting some of my other gear now

It looks the business, Martin. What's the difference, soundwise, to the LP next to it? (I know bugger all about leccy guitars!)

Dunno really. It's a different colour (and shape) so that's nice
The LP has mugh higher output pickups too, but I can get both guitars to sound awful so I don't see what difference that makes to me

Lovely. When it comes to electrics, I'm a Strat man. Well, a Tele man, too.

I was more of a Tele man, mainly because I found a 63' telecaster (very) second-hand in Allies Owl Shop, the sort of junk shop you don't see now, in 1970 for £15. But I really wanted a Strat!

Nice, Martin! Congrats. Hardly had any electric guitars, but never felt happy with LPs and eventually got a lovely sunburst Strat - mostly for the shape and the "in between" sounds. Think I'd have been better off with a Tele though. I keep thinking about the 3 pu Teles in the Modern Player Series, which might just be the best of both worlds; or the worst... But 335 types, Epi Casino etc, now they are real instruments! Having only ever owned two electric six string guitars, and them a long time ago, my opinions here count for sod tout! Keith

“The store was selling it second hand, so there was a good discount........blah di blah.........” You don’t need to convince us, Martin. We’re with you all the way. It’s the memsahib you need reasons and excuses for. Looks smashing by the way.

I need to justify my crazy buying activity to myself! So much so, I am currently in the process of selling two Squier strats, a Fender strat and three amps to cover my outgoings Keeps me mildly entertained in my dotage...

One Squier, one Fender and one amp gone - just a little more to shift as I have my eye on something else

Looks splendid Martin!
I have two electrics that I love looking at but never play these days a nice Godin and a lovely Ibanez artcore archtop. One day I'll have a Fender strat or tele - because obviously, like banjos, every home should have one.
BUT - I do wish they'd do something better than the plastic offerings with the tone and vol knobs - however iconic they might be they don't do justice to the legend in my mind.

I once had a Fender deluxe Precision bass in shoreline gold many years ago. It’s a great colour. I adored the smell if the thing too !!

I must confess, I keep thinking it would be nice to own a solid body electric. For preference, and for no good reason, I'd prefer a tele to a strat.
I have two archtops, too, and I do play them sometimes (if I'm angry or feeling exuberant usually), which is silly, really, because I am totally garbage on an electric. Even I don't like listening to me play.
But your gold number there is a sweet looking little beastie I have to confess.
I'm going for a cold bath now before I find my credit card.

Thanks Paul. I never really liked strats, always loved teles. Until I got one, then tried a strat. They just 'feel' right to me. I sold a wee red standard strat to fund the gold one - wish I hadn't, that one was really smart.
