The Taylor 322 is the guitar but with Sapele back and sides instead of Mahogany and near enough £600 less. FWIW, I prefer Sapele to Mahogany when possible. +1. Sapele is a great tonewood.

I prefer a longer scale but that's because I used a lot of lower tunings — the extra length helps string tension. If I was playing in mainly standard I would happily use a shooter scale. 12 bore?

I'll try to be there but even if I don't make it I'm happy to donate to a charity in memory of Eric.

Facetiousness aside, apparently there is a good reason for a hard case cover, particularly in the States as they let you carry a soft case on board a plane, even if it covering a massive hard case... bizarre. Jonny + they offer greater thermal protection. Additionally, if you've forked out upward of £600 on a fabric covered case or indeed £1100 on a carbon fibre case, the added cover is worth the extra cost. Cheers

You won't alter the tone of your guitar by changing the bridge pins but there are some very pretty looking ones here......http://www.amazon.co.uk/Generic-Acoustic-Guitar-Bridge-Abalone/dp/B00EQ25MTW/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1389463038&sr=8-4&keywords=ebony+bridge+pins

Bog standard masking tape should be OK. I've used it before & not had any issues.
