Are they that cunning They most certainly are. I have yet to meet a national politician who seems principled. I have met very very few local ones who are. This is the problem with a democracy that is controlled by political parties. People who will win are chosen as candidates rather than people with priciples. The ones with cunning are doubly prized. The voters are prized only on polling day. Other than that we are just citizens who get in the way of politicians' machinations.

Oh yes, Phil. This is almost as familiar a feeling as GAS! I've had a lull for 3 weeks out of the last 4. But I suddenly wanted to play one Friday, have been playng daily since, and have decided my guitar collection is a bit lacking and so have resolved to buy myself another. See, it all comes right in the end.

What heifer were they thinking off. A right load of bullocks is that. Might consider it though - when Hell is Friesian over. Keith Haven't we herd all this before, Keith? I think it may have been on Mrs Dale's Dairy. I think we may have milked this enough now!

My favourite version of the song. My favourite Dick Gaughan track. They just seem made for each other.

I ran a club for years. Oh how I wish a lot of those who did floor spots had practiced more before they turned up! I truly sympathise, but as one of those who does floor spots (and I'm sure that there are times when the organisers wish I'd practiced) I always practice what I'm going to play, but sometimes it doesn't sound like it!!! But as others have said, I do practice and I have no issue with that (it's what I love to do), but would someone please tell me, what is perfect?

What a little delight your new Brook is, Phil. I'm looking forward to seeing and hearing it (in about 10 days time!) too.

Thanks, Sigmadel. I, too, buy in bulk, but the day I went into the music shop was because I needed to change my strings before going to IanLP59's Summer do, but found I had left them at home. Choice was, do a 70 mile round trip to get my cheap strings or fork out £8 more than I would have paid normally. But thanks for the tip.

That's a lovely looking guitar, Kym. I particularly like the detail of the sapwood on the back echoed by sapwood on the sides. Makes it look almost as though there's a seam of sapwood inside the guitar (if you see what I mean). Love to hear what it sounds like.

I can't see the point in spending lots of cash on a fine guitar then skimping on strings. Never was a truer word spoken, Slasher. When you take all the costs into account, ours is (usually) a relatively inexpensive hobby. Well compared with anything that requires petrol, anyway (ie, Motor cars, Formula 1, Motorbikes, Arson). Mind you, when I needed to buy some strings urgently the other day in a shop I was charged £19 for a set of Elixirs. I thought that was a lot, but it was only raw emotion caused by having to prise my wallet open. I have 4 guitars that I play regularly (and another 6 I hardly play at all) and I reckon I buy 15 to 20 sets of elixirs a year. So that's maybe 3 or 4 months on average between changes. There's a difference when I put the new ones on, but the old ones won't be totally dead.
