Anyone remember Kitchens of Leeds they had the most marvellous carousel of guitars in their window stuff you never see now Levins Microfrets and once a Bozo I had to take of my denim jacket and my belt before I was allowed to play it

I've just notice.d the Tim Kliphius Trio are due to tour the UK this month I know this forum is pretty guitar centric (nowt wrong with that) so I thought A fiddle player known for classical and gypsy jazz stuff might not be on everyone's radar. I've seen him a few times and always been impressed with the guitar players he has with him. Nigel Clarke the trio guitarist is such a tasteful player he's not to be missed

At long last a pal and myself want to convert our stashes of ancient tone wood into guitars Has anyone got any thoughts of home building a sander for thicknessing timber? Also any suggestions as to where to go for tops?

Does anyone else use superglue gel? I'm off up to Whitby FF tomorrow for a few day of hopefully intensive session playing Imagine my dismay when I realised a small tear in my thumbnail had propagated to nearly half way across I tried laminating tissue paper and rizlas with nail varnish but that failed when doing the dishes (yes I know I shouldn't as a finger style player I should have nothing to do with kitchen sinks, but not everyone thinks likewise) But plan B with the superglue seems to be successful. Any thoughts folks?

Bought one. First impressions - this is far more accurate than my Snark. Like the bright display also. Have been playing a lot outdoors this summer and often the Snark Is unreadable! Impressed. Got one on order, my Intelli tuner struggles with bottom end notes - well, when I say on order I mean it's on my Xmas list Phil My intelli dithers over which note has been played hopefully the poly tuner clip that's on its way to me will be tuner nirvana

I wouldn't dream of putting Flatwounds on the Fylde I only mentioned it as I'd been using the Godin a lot recently and wondered whether it was simply a matter of lazy technique. It's heartening to hear that others appreciate buxom bouts

I know some string noise is unavoidable but my beloved Fylde Oberon (recently voted ugliest guitar of the weekend at Ian's do) will not let me move over the fretboard without some really painful squeaks. The Fylde has been taking a bit of a back seat to my pub guitar a Godin 5th Ave which due to its laminate construction and the fact it cost £300 and is the lightest of my guitars has been accompanying me to festivals. The Godin has a superb action and is strung with pretty heavy Thomastic Flatwounds which last for ever and are totally unaffected by festival food and sound gorgeous The short scale Fylde is strung with coated DAdarrio 13s it's got a fairly high action and an unadjustable truss rod its fourty years old and had a neck reset a couple of years ago and I've always regarded it as a very forgiving guitar capable of doing everything I ask it to do other guitars may excel it in some respects but never in all. So what can I do about the squeaks have I just got lazy playing Flatwounds should I try different strings, tweak the bridge down a touch or is the guitar just sulking for being called "a bit dumpy" Suggestions please

I take Keith's point about teeny tiny drops of oil but perhaps some dry graphite lubricant might fit the bill ( pencil "lead" is graphite) just rub a pencil around the softer the pencil the better, also worthwhile doing in nut slots
