Brook's website shows repairs to some guitars that looked as badly damaged as this one. Depending on what Simon and Andy charged for the repair, this could end up being a good deal for someone willing to take the risk. But obviously it would be a risk.

Shubbs for me. I tend to carry two when I'm playing live - one set up for guitar (my two Brooks have virtually identical necks) and one for mandolin & mandocello. I find them very easy to use, and although they're not quite as quick to change as the spring-loaded ones they're not too fiddly. Also, I once had a spring-loaded one snap during a capo change - fortunately only while I was practicing, but it would have cause me real trouble if it had happened on stage.

I've played a couple of smaller-bodied guitars in the Breedlove Passport series and thought they were nice guitars for the money. A new one might be a bit over your budget, but possibly worth looking out for second-hand ones.

Thanks grayn - I'll add it to my list to check out. I like the idea of the higher octave - most pedals seem to only do the lower one.

I'm thinking of adding an octave pedal to my board to use with my 5-string Jazz bass. The main ones I'm looking at so far are the EBS Octabass, the MXR Bass Octave Deluxe, and the Boss OC-3.
Does anyone have any experience with any of these? Are there are any others (in a similar price range) that I should be looking at?

I like as little technology on my acoustics as possible, so I don't think it's for me, but each to their own...

I can hear it on the recording. It could be a recording issue, in which case I'll leave it to those more knowledgeable about such things.
The only other thing I can think of is that you might be catching the string with your nail or fingertip, so that the string is being plucked rather than just strummed evenly with the others - that might explain why you hear it more on the upstroke. It might also be that you're pulling up slightly on the string so that it's bouncing off the frets (seems less likely, but not impossible if you have the action set fairly low).

Any chance it could be a bit of buzz or rattle on the string? If it happens more on certain frets then it could be a bit of buzz against the fret.

Trevor TAMCO You fitted a McIntyre Feather in a Moon 10-string bouzouki that I bought from you a few years ago. That was a nice pickup. I don't think I ever saw them on sale anywhere else in the UK. They never seemed to get the profile that the K&K has. Martin Simpson has at least one guitar which uses a McIntyre Feather as a second pickup to one of his Highlanders. I think PRS might be using this as a 'branded solution'. Al Petterway uses Feathers. Never knowingly heard one myself. I had a Headway installed in my latest guitar and I am very impressed with that ... ... I do use Newtone Masterclass strings though :-) Thanks Andy - I'm glad to know that they're still around. I never used one in a guitar, but it was excellent on the bouzouki - very clean and natural sound.

K&K are now the only pick-ups I fit. Since I started stocking them I have had few requests for anything else. Lovely. I really like the walnut neck with the contrasting line down the middle. Hope you don't have to wait too much longer!

I've never owned a Stonebridge, but I've played a few and they've always seemed like really good value for money.
I was quite tempted by a spruce/mahogany OM at one point, but was put off by the truly awful, sick-Dalmatian-style pickguard. Thankfully they seem to have abandoned those for the more recent ones.
