Collins, I couldn't agree more. I was a latecomer to Cohen. It was the nineties before I really started to like him and I was lucky enough to see him in Birmingham a couple of years back. An outstanding writer, superb performer and he surrounded himself with excellent musicians for his tour.

Now this is the guy that should have received the Nobel Prize, to my mind the best singer songwriter of them all.

It's bloody horrible getting older. Nothing works the way it did. Hands hurts all the time. Chart "music" doesn't sound like music. To record anything involves a lot more than pushing 2 buttons on the cassette recorder. Cars are ridiculous things governed by computers. Millions of channels on my telly and still nothing to watch . . . Not a contribution just a moan. Well, yes. All that is true. Howevah, when you get a little bit older you can go out in your slippers wearing food-stained clothes. You can shout at the traffic and take the mickey out of telephone cold callers. "Have you been involved in an accident recently?" "You'll have to speak up son! I'm a bit deaf because I was in an accident recently." I would add 'never be far from a toilet' to your list. I'm allowed to say things like that because I'm old.

I love the Gaelic psalm singing. I'm in a very small minority up here in Scotland though. Most folk don't like it at all. I'm not religious by the way. It's nothing to do with that for me. Those strange, rather dissonant harmonies remind me of the singing of South African tribes. Remember the film Zulu? Spine-tingling sound.

That guitar looks exquisite. Truly, a work of art. I am now nursing a serious case of GAS and breach of the ninth commandment.

I can say with complete confidence that anything I play never sounds like Bert Jansch.

My old dad had a saying about musicians like her. "The music's jumping out of her." Absolutely terrific.

I saw the film a couple of weeks ago and I hated it. Normally I enjoy Tarantino's films but this one is awful. Having, now, read the above article my hatred has deepened. I am actually upset.

It was sold for £80 which after auction costs are added will make it nearly £100.

It is, indeed, on catch up. The only problem with programmes that are downloaded from catch up is that they have no subtitles. I need them more and more nowadays. Of course there is nothing wrong with my hearing it's just that everyone seems to mumble nowadays.

Well done with the link, Martin. You can do all of mine in the future. You've got me interested with that valuation. I don't play banjo but I might sneak along on Saturday. As long as the memsahib doesn't find out.

Yeah. I should have known that my skills wouldn't allow mw to create a decent link. Sorry. However of you go to the main site www.greatwesternauctions.com and search in this month's catalogue for 'banjo' then it will appear, as if by magic, on your screens. Damned interweb thingy!!!!!

I don't know anything about banjos but i came across this one that is coming up for auction in Glasgow in a general sale this weekend. www.greatwesternauctions.com/catalogues/gs230116/quicksearch_catmaker2012_gwa.phpIt is the lower of the two on the page and described, wrongly, as a 4 stringer. If it only makes the guide price of £40 - £60 then it does look like a bargain. If the link works then you should be able to click on the image and enlarge it. it looks quite tidy and John Grey banjos appear to be not bad examples of the beast but I really wouldn't know. Just in case banjo boys might be interested.
