A very happy Christmas to one and all. Ocarolan, I was kinda hoping for a bit of a wild time this year. I'll aim for a restful Easter. However, I hope you have the Christmas you wish for.

I've always had trouble remembering words to songs. I also sing with eyes closed but never realised it until I was asked why I do that. I don't know why but there it is.

A good few months ago we had one of or wee nights with friends and family. They usually end up with a singsong and I'm not short of guitar players in that company. There were 5 of us playing, often together, and I noticed that whenever a particular one of my guitars was being played it could not be heard among the other 4. There was quite a bit of soloing going on during the numbers and that guitar could not be heard during its solos. It is, of course, not a particularly good guitar but my point is that, yes, sometimes you need a bit of volume.

I had a go at cleaning my old yamaha strat a few months ago. I followed instructions from a youtube item on it. It involved the use of a razor blade and, as I remember, fine sand paper. I stopped short of applying any oil to the fretboard as I was unsure which oil to use. The result seemed fine but I wouldn't be for trying anything with my acoustics. If I were to really feel the need to clean them up the I think that I would put it into my local repair shop. Likely to be pricey though. There were all kinds of warnings about using polish.

I have to say the classical and acoustic programmes were great.

Right! Ok! Firstly I have to say that I have nothing against electric guitar playing. Indeed, recently I've been spending as much time on my old electric weapon as on acoustic. I must also own up to not being a fan of heavy metal, a style that I find lacking in emotion and feel. I have just watched a recording of the the most recent programme and was virtually unmoved by any of the performances. The Irish lad's playing was definitely better than the hair tossing wee man who was given the nod and the big tall lad who performed last was, in my opinion, a better player than all of them. I have to agree with Mandovark that Tony Iommi's contribution was suspect at best. That was an hour of my life that I'll never get back. My own fault, I know. I really must apply for C.O.G. Status. Utter nonsense masquerading as music. I'm off to open the Highland Park.

I watched both of them last night. I just ignore the judges so I don't cringe. There was incredible depth of talent within the Irish contingent. I'm loving the classical players because I can't do that. Lots of feeling in your piece, Jak. Really enjoyed it.
