Most of the above plus Hamish Imlach and John Doyle. Oh and David Rawlings and Kenneth Pattengale who both play like I'd love to be able to play.

Sorry to hear about your unfortunate accidents. I hope your recovery continues. I've got a Freshman 3 dc and I find it fairly easy to play but as it's a dreadnought it's not ideal for finger style. But, d'ye know what? If I've learned anything it's that the only way to improve is to practise. A new guitar won't make you a better player. It might motivate you to play more but only you will know that; based on your experience over the last 20 years. As for scales? I only recently started to learn scales having not bothered for over 50 years. That said, I'm not that good and hardly he best example. I do however love playing and can't imagine not having guitars in my life. And I think a lot of stuff on YouTube is great. Try and find people to play with. I mean music, of course. and not

Ok, here's a wee example. Strangely he's with Jerry Garcia. The solo jamming after about 4 minutes or so I think sounds along the same lines as your experimental music. Anyhoo, it's good music in my opinion.

The two pieces, particularly the first one, are reminiscent of David Crosby's stuff from the seventies. I was and am a fan so I'm bound to like this kind of sound. Very nice.

Y'know what. There's no banjo here and the guitar work is very basic but try listening to this with dry eyes.

I'm a huge fan of Rhiannon Giddens. I watched her steal the show and bring the house down at last year's Transatlantic Sessions concert in Glasgow. Banjo and all.

Tom Paxton was an early influence on my playing and singing. I think one of his concerts in Glasgow was the first concert that I attended. I still see Jimmy Mcgegor stoatin' about and occasionally bump into him in one of our local bars. He must getting on for 90 now but looks 25 years younger and is obviously keeping very fit. I don't know about influences but wish I could play like Mark Knopfler and Peter Green. Paul Simon and Stephen Stills on acoustic. But......... I cannae.

Agreed, Leo. I grew tired of being overwhelmed by techniques the results of which are beautiful to listen to but are quite simply beyond me. I do like using videos though, and when they're well done ( I probably mean simple enough) they are very helpful.
