That looks to bescome a beautiful guitar. It never stops amazing me that people actually build guitars like that.

I guess guitars cost what the market is willing to pay. But I don't see myself selling my house to buy e.g. a Traugott. Too many affordable great guitars out there..

Just received my copy of the book about Roger Bucknall and Fylde, and I have not touched any guitar today, but been reading about them and drooled over pictures of them. Everyone remotely interested in stringed acoustic instruments should have one. Highly recommended! AND: It has taken my anticipation waiting for my Alexander to a new, almost uncomfortable level!
Happy X-mas all!
John

I really appreciate the "try & buy"-threads, especially when they are as elaborated and well-written as this one, and with a composition to round it off. These Tanglewood guitars sound like a steal to me, and the sound was very nice, as were the compositions. A slightly oriental feel, especially to the first one. Thanks for posting!

Fantastic bearclawed top (didn't know there were bears in Germany). Would love a picture of the back as well, if you have the time to give her a break..:-)

That is an absolutely gorgeous guitar! If it sounds as good as it looks, you must be a happy guy!

Thanks all, I wasn't implying any negativity in my comment, rather a GAS-induced sigh.. The first few weeks the guitar was on my mind ALL the time, but now I feel every day life creeping back. Sweyne1's updates brought the GAS back with full force! But, as I said, I'm very happy for you, and look forward to picks, comments and maybe soundclips? Play on! Regards John

I ordered an Alexander about six weeks ago, and Roger estimated 7-8 months wait. Should I worry?
Looking forward to your report about your new guitar! Enjoy!:-)

This summer I attended a concert with Chris Wood in Trondheim. I think it was his first gig in Norway, and he gave a lovely concert! Great singing, great lyrics and very tasteful guitar playing. His inbetween song comments were also top notch. He played mostly in open tuning (open G?) during most of the concert. He said that he left his main guitar at home because he was afraid of the air handling, but later in the concert he commented that the guitar he used might be even better than his main guitar..Alas I couldn't find out the brand of the guitar, and I don't know what brand his main (slightly more blingy) guitar is either. In any case, they both sound wonderful in his hands. If he is playing near you, it comes highly recommended, but I guess most of the folks in this forum being in the British Isles has heard him already.. If anyone knows what brand of guitars he is using, feel free to post. Thanks, John

Fascinating story, and a very honest one to booth! I'm a new member here, so I'm sorry for coming in late. I hope your life is good these days, and that the guitars bring you much joy. I just wanted to say that I have a similar story with a guitar. Two years ago I bought a 1993 Lowden O 10 as an alternative sound from my Martin and Gibson. After playing it for some months, I pretended and wanted to love it, but somwhere deep inside I knew that something wasn't quite right. It had something to do with a tad too beefy neck, a little too wide fingerboard and a feeling of not liking the sound when strummed. In DADGAD it really excelled, but even then there was a certain something missing, a lack of "personality" in the guitar. (This is not to say anything negative about Lowdens, they are great guitars, but this Lowden just didn't speak to this person.) But the main point is that it took me two years to decide to let it go, because I felt that I should give it more chances. But in the end I realised that such a guitar didn't deserve to sit unplayed, so I sold it to a friend, who loves it.
So that ended well. And now having a small guitar fund, a month ago I ordered a stock Alexander from Bucknall, and I plan to go from Norway (I'm Norwegan) to Penrith and pick it up in the spring. So, I know where you're coming from when you talk about not getting on with a guitar, even though your story had a happy ending! Let's hope I will get on with the Fylde, as I never have played one! Best, John
