Update: I've moved to the Shubb as my main 'static capo'. For some reason the G7, more than not gave a buzz on one guitar, no matter how tight I had it.

Another vote for the Fender ones, angled at one end. Good and thick, and resistant to kinking I think.

Thanks for the further ideas guys.
But in a lucid moment, I grabbed the bull by the horns.
Looked on Gumtree today, a bit of phoning and 10 minutes driving, and I came back with a pair of Audio Technica ATH-M50 headphones, for £50.
Pretty good result I think, so now to give them a go!

I've realised that I have another use for them - when we set up our ceilidh band I monitor the PFLs and the main mix with my earbuds, before I power up the mains (speakers) That way I can get a fair mix - without disturbing the audience - then fine tune the sound. The earbuds have great noise isolation so they work quite well. They have the really thin wire though that always gets whipped around the knobs and faders, is is a royal PITA. So from looking at the above headphones on Amazon, I also got a link to: www.amazon.co.uk/Sennheiser-HD280pro-Closed-Monitoring-Headphones/dp/B000065BPB/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8These seem to have good isolation, supposedly quite transparent, and look quite foldable, so should fit in the case with the mixer. I know I'm trying to kill two birds with one stone and therefore compromising, but nothings going to be perfect at less than £100 I guess. m.

Interesting, thanks I'll have a look at those.
I remember when I was wee, my dad had a pair of Koss headphones (a weird colour of greeny brown, I think!), which were good, but very uncomfortable as they were on ear-ones, and the spring of the headband was really strong.
So on that n=1 sample, I'm thinking over-ear ones...
Any more suggestions?

Does anyone have any suggestions for half-decent, none too expensive headphones for use when recording?
As I don't have speakers connected to my laptop, my £30 earbuds are all I've got to listen with, which is probably not the best thing to use...
Regards,

I would think copper would be a bit soft, but why not try it?

Always thought he was a great musician, his song constructions were always interesting. Good to be reminded of him, and glad he's still playing.
Avalon guitar?

Particularly liked the slow one.
I'd never played with a northumbrian piper in a many years of sessions, but was back in Shetland last month and I sat in on two sessions with not one but two northumbrian pipers.
Enjoyed it immensely, their tone fits so well with acoustic guitar.

I have a couple of Boss pedals: an RC30 looper, and an OC3 octaver.
The looper I bought mainly just to mess about with, and practice soloing over different chord progressions. It's kind of fun, but definitely not used it enough to be comfortable on stage with.
The octave pedal was bough for gigs to give an extra something. Although I'm still not sure what that extra something is going to sound like...
I do prefer the pure guitar sound though, can't beat that.

Just listened to her song Wrecking Days. Wow, she's a cut above. Good choice Mr White.

This is glorious.
For those that don't know, John is best known for his work with band Solas, and fiddler Liz Carroll. He's always been a bit of a favourite of mine because he's got his own (very recognisable) style, and he is of course hugely talented. By all accounts a nice guy too.
Next on the 'learn' list for me.
(Tune starts at about 50s after an intro.)

I feel obliged to chip in here, as I play almost exclusively DADGAD.
I would add Simon Fox to the good examples already given:
And what about Mark Thomson who writes some lovely tunes:
Slightly tangentially, I really don't go out of my way to listen to DADGAD players any more, I'd rather listen to tunes and work out for myself whether they would fit the tuning and whether I could make something of the tune so that it might end up being worth listening to. Not easy!
