There's a chap at my folk club who sings 'While Gamekeepers Lie Sleeping' unaccompanied, lovely song, I'd be interested to hear what you come up with. I recently learnt 'Trees, they do grow high' and listened to versions by Martin Carthy, Joan Baez and Wild Silk. I only listened to them and didn't try to learn one like for like, they were all quite unique. I ended up arranging the song based on chords, Em, D and Am to suit how I sing it. Anyhow, I think you can be quite free in how you develop your own version, either with melody or chords to suit how you feel comfortable singing it.

I was going to suggest a Guild M120 (all solid mahogany, 45mm nut) , that little Guild Vinny posted looks great value.

Hi Larry, I think you can make small adjustments to the saddle which might help or buy a compensated saddle to see if that helps. Sometimes if the nut slots are too high it can cause intonation issues too.

I’ve recently been working on an album project called ‘Night Sky Songs’, a collection of original songs that were recorded between last Christmas and New Year... I had a bit of a failed attempt a while ago but this time round it all seemed to fall into place, and it is now complete. For those interested, a bit of techy info… they’re simple home recordings using two SE Electronics condenser microphones, one close-miked on the vocals and one on the guitar, mono recordings aside from any bleed between the two. I was aiming for a natural and intimate feel. All the songs were played on Dalia, a small-bodied nylon string guitar that was made for me by davewhite , it’s one of his ‘Bogha Fada’ models. The technique I adopted was the result of a fair bit of trial and error and experimentation, looking for a method that I thought suited the songs. I decided to get my recordings professionally mastered into a cohesive set which was done by Barry Gardner at SafeandSound Mastering, I think he did a good job of adding depth and dimension without changing the feel of the original recordings. The CDs were manufactured by Audiotree who are based in Norwich, local to me. Nigel at Audiotree also designed the CD sleeve using photos I provided. They most definitely added to the sound and presentation of the finished article. If anyone would like to listen, Night Sky Songs can now be found on Bandcamp, for streaming or digital download and there is a small run of CDs available too. If you’d like a CD, they can be ordered via Bandcamp or, if you prefer, please feel free to message me on the forum. I’m really pleased with the result, many forum members have generously offered encouragement and advice when I’ve posted in the Plucky Duck over the last few years, thank you for that, and I can safely say Night Sky Songs would not be ‘out there’ without that interaction! Here’s the Bandcamp link if you’d like to take a look or have a listen: Night Sky SongsThanks Rob

Yes, my tongue was firmly in my cheek. If we do use the car analogy then it is a special run Ferrari and they don't tend to depreciate either. Not everyone can drive a Ferrari but there's nothing wrong with owning one even if that is the case (as it would be for me)! I do hope it gets played regularly in whatever capacity and you can only appreciate the craftsmanship and skill of the maker!
