I do like the harp. Have a couple myself, but I tend to just use them to blow a few very quiet background chords to add colour to my acoustic songs. I always enjoyed listening to Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee.

Tried it once, over a few weeks - and failed very miserably! You're going well with it Larry. Mark

the harmonica is a fabulous instrument and if you keep a few things in mind (blow angle and so on) then you will have loads of fun with it

Keep her running, Larry.
If you're looking for a good book on harmonica playing that actually helps you progress, I can recommend Harmonica For Dummies and the various online examples that come with it. Unlike all those, "Here are approximate versions of Home Sweet Home and Red River Valley, now play my exact transcription of what Sighted Slim Tomato played on a rusty harp in a different key on Money Goes To White Bloke Records in 1921" books, it's a well thought out course that gives you a thorough grounding in the instrument. Harmonica is more challenging than most think it is and, in common with Keith, I didn't get very far with it for years (heck, if a thoroughgoing musician like him flounders on the thing, it must be a bugger) but I actually got somewhere fast with that book, before my interest in playing music dwindled away to its present nadir.

Even the market for the old Larry Adler (patronising git - and Max Geldray was better...) harmonicas isn't what it was in the current crisis.

I know I live in Harmonica country, but my favourites are Lee Oscar. not too expensive, great for bending, wide variety. Check out the HB9 and HB10 Plucky Dips if you want to know how they sound.

To be honest the world of harmonicas is a minefield! So many different ones yet they pretty much all do the same thing. This Seydel is very loud with good sustain but I doubt its worth the price they sell for. Especially when my other harmonica cost me £5 and sounds pretty much the same
