Sweyne1 of this parish has asked me to build him a parlour to go with the triple 'O' built back in 2017. After a few emails John is requesting a build in EIR, Englemann Spruce top, mahogany neck with a slotted headstock. Snakewood bindings to match the T.O. and simple crows foot detailing. Materials ordered and arrived: Currently acclimatising to the workshop, work will start in a week or so... TBC

OK time to get going The materials have sat long enough so today I've made a start, giving the soundboard a light sanding, prepping the centre join and bringing the two halves together.

I've been doing some bending (wood!): Sides, bindings and purflings all bent in my version of the Fox bender.

Here's the story behind this thread from my standpoint. It's linked in to Pistolpete's thread about how many guitars you own and how many you actually play. I had three guitars, the Fylde Alex, Francis' first build for me (triple 0) and a Stratocaster. About two years ago I decided to buy a third acoustic which I could be more 'relaxed' with. In other words, I wouldn't cry if I dinked it. So I bought a Vintage Gordon Giltrap, an excellent guitar for the money. Then about 12 months ago I bought an Epiphone Sheraton. The idea there was that i'd have a second electric as well with a different sound, different look etc etc. Also I loved the look of them because Beatles used to play them. I'm of that 'vintage' as well . The trouble is I didn't play them. I'd always play either the Fylde or Milsom for acoustic or, if I did play electric (not that often these days) i'd play the Fender. So in Feb I decided that i'd sell both guitars and put the money to one new acoustic which I knew i'd enjoy playing. I decided on a 12 fret parlour to be different from what I already had. But I wanted a good one and none that I wanted came to light. I'd been following Francis' build thread for Andrew's parlour (s). Then I saw another post in the thread and thought 'shall I be a cheeky sod and contact Francis again'. I felt a bit guilty because he'd already built me one guitar and I thought maybe he was busy with other commissions. It turned out that after Andrew's guitar he had no others on the horizon so he agreed to build this one. Francis, as usual, has been incredibly helpful all along as many of you can testify from experience. Of course the idea was that i'd end up with four guitars instead of five. Then Jose comes along and spoils it all by FORCING me to buy one of his. So i'll be back up to five when the parlour is finished. But at least now I know i'll enjoy playing them all. That's the story so far. It's lovely to see a new guitar taking shape and, as things stand at the moment I may even be allowed to drive to Hereford to pick it up John

Back to it after a stint of household DIYing. I've profiled the front edge of the sides to a 20 foot radii and have started to laminate the linings in situ. These will be removed and shaped off the sides.

Back planed and sanded to a 15 foot radius sphere. Not shown but the linings for the back have been laminated against the sides and will be declamped and cleaned up in the morning... postimg.cc/gallery/xfq3stg

I know nothing about the ins and outs of guitar building. What I do know is, doesn't that lovely, warm coloured rosewood look nice.

A little more progress on John's parlour:
The rosette - mix of black & white lines with a central ring of crow's foot
Bridge plate being glued down. The brass register pins act to position and stop lateral shifting as the go-bars are applied
The curved Falcate braces (Primary 1 & 2) roughly positioned
Soundboard side of the Falcate braces sanded to match the 20 foot radius. Longer braces require more material to be removed with a small plane before sanding
Marking the primary braces for the housings to bridge the bridgelate
Sides given a sanding and coat of sealer

Fantastic francis . I've been away too long and it's good to be back and seeing wonderful guitar builds.
