That’s a very bonny guitar, Francis. Well done.

Absolutely adore the look of that Francis 😍 Wish I had the money to commission one exactly same. Particularly love that bridge. The whe thing has a kind of Dave King / Brook sort of vibe. Would love to hear it.

That will be up to sweyne1 to do some audio. The slightly deeper body certainly makes quite a difference...

Great job Francis.
Looks fantastic.
I hope we can hear it soon.
Edit: I now understand why people want to see and hear the Yamaha. If you don't it's like being given the peel without the orange. I shall remedy this asap.

I was the guy who collected the guitar today not that bald, old coot. A great welcome from Francis again as we've all come to expect. Also Sheila very welcoming albeit at a very sensible distance. And no sign of police road blocks anywhere i'm glad to say. I know I was being a naughty boy going to collect it but I waited a month and we were very careful about the social distancing/mask thing. Yes it is lovely. A very clear bell like sound albeit that will soften as the strings age. I did say to Francis that i'd try to post a sound clip. I told him that I watched Jonny playing 'Leaving Stoer' a few days ago and the sound was fantastic (and the playing of course ) but he appeared to have professional standard gear whereas i've got a little £80 Tascam digi recorder. So you'll hear the notes but whether you can appreciate the tone will be another matter. We'll see. Another big thank you to Francis for doing such a lovely job. John

Alan J My first attempt with Falcate bracing didn't use any carbon fibre or resin I was just taken by the shape of the bracing, it's symmetry really. So what I did instead was to laminate the curved braces using a hardwood sapele) sandwiched between two spruce layers and for me it worked well enough to move to resin and CF tow fibres. So once i'd sourced some CF tow (3k strands - Easy Composites) and resin (same place) I started the messy process of laying the CF tow along the curved braces. I've changed things a little now by putting the mearest of grooves (circa 0.5mm) along the underside of the curved braces so the resin soaked tow lays in the groove which helps prevent it from spreading out from under the brace as it's clamped in the go bar deck. Don't over whet the tow - enough to bind the strands together but as little excess resin as possible. And the resin gels quite quickly so to start with concentrate on the getting curved braces down. For me it gives a more even sound across the strings - probably due to the symmetry. It's louder, suits both fingerstyle and strummers. It's certainly not easier. Because the braces on the soundboard are topped with the tow fibre and resin there's no fiddling with brace heights to change sounds as you might with a conventional X brace. You'll need to chat with some of the owners on here for their thoughts on the guitars (I could be bias!). Francis
ps - I don't do the whole tapping thing and measuring the outputs. I'm afraid I just tap and listen. If it sounds right to me I'm happy.

Very happy owner of one of Francis’ falcate beauties here. The guitar has a very balanced tone, even on every note, and is responsive and loud when you want it to be. Looks to be a lot more work for the builder, but great for the player.

I failed miserably when I tried to upload audio tracks before so apologies in advance if this doesn't work. It's been three months since I picked up the guitar and the sound has changed as you'd expect even in that short time. I find the strings a bit scratchy compared with the Newtones on the Fylde (Elixir Nanoweb 11-52's). I haven't tried to play anything specific. There are three short files - the first with a pick is just E/F#m/A strummed then the same chords playing single strings. The other two are fingerpicked. Just basic six string patterns to try to give an idea of the overall sound. It should be of interest to you Keith as Francis mentioned you had asked for yours to be built with a deeper body. It is always hard to make comparisons when only listening to a recording but your guitar sounds remarkably similar to the bocote/cedar parlour that Francis made for me. I've currently got a track at the Duck [Say Grace] which features my guitar...the first recording I've made using that guitar. I'm trying a set of low tension Santa Cruz parabolic strings [for the first time] which seem to suit the guitar very well. Andrew

That's right, John - I've gone for the deeper body too. No idea whether it will make any/much hearable difference but short of asking Francis to make an adjustable depth body it'd be impossible to get much in the way of valid comparison anyway. But we'll see. In happier times I'd have been pestering you for a go of yours, but hearing it is very interesting, and,as Andrew remarks, the sound is akin to his cedar/bocote parlour - crystal clear, balanced and sustaining. I'm sure you'll be very happy together! I have played several parlours by Francis, and every one sounded great. Looking forward to mine being completed!

Thank you Andrew. I just listened to Grace using phones. Jane has a lovely voice and the guitar parts are very nicely played. When I switch strings I think i'll go back to the low tension Newtones. It's nice to try other makes but you soon know whether you like them or not.
Hallo Keith. It would have been nice to meet up but, as you say, these are strange times. You are right, the sound is clear with excellent sustain. In spite of my fumblings you can still hear the actual guitar. From all our experiences with Francis' guitars you are not going to be disappointed.
Cheers both.
John
