I've recently bought this Tanglewood on eBay. It has a solid spruce top and a solid rosewood back and sides. There is no label so no information on what model it is and I've no idea how old it is. Wikipaedia says that Tanglewood guitars were first made in England in 1988 but inside the soundhole it says Tanglewood since 1960. All solid Tanglewoods are quite expensive these days so I think I may have got quite a bargain here. Anybody any ideas about what model this is?

Hi Dave, thanks for the tip but I've already tried this acouple of times, the last time about a week ago. I don't know how long they normally take to answer so perhaps I'm being too impatient. Whichever way it goes I've got a fantastic guitar, but would dearly love to know what it is.

I've played a couple of solid top and b/s Tanglewoods and they did sound very good indeed.
What does the inscription at 12th fret say?

The old ones were pretty decent guitars — the current range is not bad either though I guess the company has changed hads a few times.

My daughter has a little Tanglewood parlour (TW-73 I think) with a solid cedar top and solid mahogany B&S. It's a really great-sounding guitar, although I can't play it very successfully because of the slim neck. I remember getting in touch with Tanglewood by email to ask about it before buying 2nd hand because it has a paddle headstock and they normally have slotted. They got back to me pretty quickly. You might get a quicker response by just emailing them, if you haven't already tried that.

Yes, I've had a few Tanglewood solid top and laminate back and sides, the last one being a Winter leaf TW9. This is an excellent guitar with a great action. However not in the same class as the all solid wood one.

Sorry if my replies are ending up in the wrong place. I'm new to this and haven't quite got the hang of it yet.

p and I have the same query as detailed here.
I've just acquired the exact same guitar & this to date is the only other post, picture or mention I can find of it.....odd!?
I've emailed some poorish quality images I was sent by the seller to Tanglewood, who have promised to look into it & get back The original sales docket was from Nov 2000. Cheers....

Hi, Looking through all my guitar catalogues, I collect them..I have a Tanglewood catalogue from back in April 1998. Looking at there photographs you have, it seems like a mixture of 2 guitars? ? The top and binding are the same as The Natural series from that year which states Solid Cedar top, Mahogany back and sides. BUT, you have a pearl inlay on the 12 th fret and a bounced fingerboard, which was the Natural DLX, which had a solid Cedar top, Rosewood sides and a solid Rosewood back. The DLX also had vintage gold tuning gears. I could send you a picture/acan of the actual page. You seem to have a Natural DLX with a different inlay on the soundboard? It could well be that either a previous year and year after they changed the specs but this is what I have from this catalogue. Funny, I've been collecting catalogues for years, and before the internet etc, you would have to send away for the catalogues or pick them up at guitar shows and shops. I sent away to Collings etc years ago and they did not have catalogues, so they sent me a price list with actual photographs of their guitars, I'll have to document them all one day. .......but I digress. Hope the above helps, Graham
