Latest Fylde newsletter, among other delights, has this excellent news from Mr B. -
"Proudfoot Films has completed the film about Nic Jones, and it is due to be shown on BBC4 on the 27th September. I’ve seen the promo, and the completed version. It is full of famous names being interviewed and demonstrating bits of guitar technique. There are also several clips of a good looking but slightly weary guitar maker with a white hat. Nic has had a good year, and with the substantial help of his son Joe and Belinda O'Hooley, is making a wonderful contribution to music once again. The film includes rare film clips of Nic playing, and quite a lot about the terrible car crash that stopped his career so early and for such a long time. An hour long, and very emotional.
I can't be the only one wondering if Joe will become a solo performer in his own right. He has the natural presence on stage and is becoming an excellent guitarist. He recently brought all the three family Fylde’s for a quick check over. In the film, Nic says he simply wanted to be Hank Marvin, well didn’t we all?? I don’t think it takes anything away from the other formative guitarists such as Martin Carthy and Martin Simpson if I say that in our world Nic, you were Hank."
I hope the Wool Merchant has got a telly....Though there's alway i-Player!!

Lordydordy, I'm jealous as all get out.... is there any way to access this from downunder? ... If anyone has a DVD recorder, or even a VHS one you might be in luck - sorry I can help with that myself, but someone might be able to..... And, as a desperate option, a good quality videocamera might just about make a watchable recording of the telly whilst it's on. Or, UK is very pleasant in September - my favourite time of year in fact - come over for a short hol!! Uninterestingly, I was one of what was likely to be hundreds/thousands of people emailed by the makers some while ago in search of info re Nic - can't imagine why, unless Mr B gave them his client list, which seems unlikely. I just pointed them straight to Roger, who had indeed already contributed to the programme both on and, especially, off camera. Were any other Forum Fylde Freaks contacted? Keith

Lordydordy, I'm jealous as all get out.... is there any way to access this from downunder? ... Marcus, I'd be happy to forward you a DVD of the prog. Only Cost you some guaranteed tickets for the next Ashes series... I'll get your address nearer the time. All the best, Alasdair.

Alasdair, that's very kind of you indeed. I'd really appreciate the chance to see this.
But, surely by now you've sated your appetite for watching woeful Aussie batsmen crumble in the face of competent English bowling... have you not heard of the dangers of indulging in "too much of a good thing"? All's I can promise is an excellent case of sunburn if you make it down this way and get your gear off...
Hmmm, on second thoughts, I could buy you tickets for day four or five of a test... that way I'd be guaranteed a refund...

As such I'm a neutral, given that my own team is, shall we say, modest... I've talked about it for long enough and it hasn't happened this time. However, four years is surely long enough to secure funds and tickets. May even be more of a contest by then... That said, I can't imagine the Aussies will be push-overs at home this winter! Thinking of the last three tests - assuming number three's not at Perth! Failing that, Sydney and Melbourne will do nicely, thank you. I'll keep you posted. Meantime, I'll make sure I record the prog and get a copy off to you. All the best. Alasdair.

Alasdair... are you thinking of coming out here for the next series or heading to the next England-based Ashes series? If the former and you will be making it to the East coast, let me know... but be sure not to visit me with your mates.... Barmy army, Barmy army, Barmy army

Barmy army, Barmy army, Barmy army Marcus, It's the series in four years - guitars to pay for at the moment - and, rest assured, I'm unlikely to have any mates in the 'barmy army'. Don't think I could stand the imaginative chanting. Alasdair.
