That's beautiful. I wish I had the tools and skills to make one myself!

I'm not 100% sure on the answer to this, but the norm is to use a pair of book matched pieces for both the soundboard and the back. Realistically this is due to the availability of wide enough sections of wood, there is much more choice the narrower the piece of timber is as the trees do not have to be as old. Im sure there are a few guitars out there made from single pieces, but I haven't actually seen any myself. My Santa Cruz OM is made of a single piece of East Indian a Rosewood. This OM was made for an early attempt at the European market, usual quality construction but with minimal appointments. Whether the single piece back was part of this strategy I don't know - I just know it is a fine sounding guitar! if you are coming to Halifax you will see it!

After a few delays, she is finally finished. I need to get some decent photos taken but here are a few teasers. I'm really happy with how things have turned out and am enjoying putting her through her paces. I am also going to try and get a friend who is a much better player than I to record a few samples though that wont be for a few weeks yet.

This reminds me of one of my biggest regrets. I'm not much good with my hands but about 20 years ago I really fancied doing one of those Totnes guitar building courses — wish I had now!

I'm in the process of kitting out a shed...
Now I have sufficient space and the inclination - now all I need is the wherewithal.
I have sufficient inspiration, thanks to the good people of this forum.
Maybe next year I'll look at a kit...
Thanks Nick. I love these build threads.
Alasdair.

Lovely little guitar, I like small bodied guitars, they are great for sitting down in the evening just noodling. That's nice ribbon sapele, it's a great tonewood that is very underrated, if it cost £300 a set everyone would want it. I've got quite a bit of reclaimed sapele from old window frames and sills, which builds some of the best little blues guitars you'll find.
Oh, and if any of you guys that want to make a guitar and you live in the South East, well you're welcome to come along to my place near Maidstone and use my workshop, and I'll guide you through the process.

Colin thanks for your comments. I spend quite a lot of time on the Norfolk Broads and the guitar was built with that in mind so it can easily be taken away at weekends though I can see her becoming an everyday user as well.
I agree with the Sapele , it was a bit tricky to bend (it really did take some persuasion) but it got there in the end. I picked up a few sets at the same time, very reasonably priced from Madinter, it was a bit wet when it turned up but its had 12 months in the workshop to acclimatize so will definitely be using it again.
Its a shame I'm so far away or I would love to pop buy Colin and get a few pointers / critique on what I have already built. I hope someone takes you up on your incredibly kind offer.
Already starting my next build, though this is something a little different. I'll start a separate thread soon.
