Edit. Hmmmmm. First one looks like it got left in the road. The ' chocolate ' samples look nice. I wonder what they're like when they're finished ?

What are the forum's luthiers views on asymmetric bridges ? Are they detrimental to an ' even ' tone ? Could they be designed to enhance the bass or treble sides ? Daft questions ? This is April 1st right Only for those who've survived the Ides of March.

Here's a little anecdote. My first really good guitar- after my average but much-loved Levin- was a hand-built John Bailey. It was eventually stolen but I sometimes perform an Internet trawl to see if I can find any clues to its recovery. Today I looked at the Wiki entry for John Bailey and discovered this passage;
Of course, the Avalon luthiers who are building my guitar currently were deeply involved with George Lowden's workshop so there's this really nice connection between my first and latest guitars. My new guitar will have a spark of John Bailey in it, I like to think.

Is the top Sinker Cedar? Looks like the tops Roy Tonewood have been selling.
On the AGF there was a guy who built a guy from Sinker Cedar/Ziricote

Pretty, ain't she. Very huggable I won't be taking delivery until after September though as I'll be away in Portugal. Still, rather that than having to leave her behind.

Yeah, patience is a toughie ! I'm thinking about which chord to play first once I've tuned her/him up. I'm hearing an A minor 6th with a sustain which makes the cat purr. Patience and imagination make a good partnership.

I just wanted to chip in and say that I recently tried a really rather wonderful Cedar top with Ziricote guitar in a shop in Devon. it was just an enchanting tone and personally I loved it. I am not sure how much of the sound was the build or builder and how much was the woods used but I have to say it was spectacular. I compared it to some other combinations from the same builder at the same time and the Ziricote back and sides just had that something extra going for it. Maybe it was just a lucky build that all came together at the right time when the planets were in line... or maybe it is that Ziricote with Cedar just sounds that god to my ears.
