No idea about the Cedar - whether a difference in colour has an impact on tone. When it comes to it wood is wood in all its infinite varieties.

I just wanted to chip in and say that I recently tried a really rather wonderful Cedar top with Ziricote guitar in a shop in Devon. it was just an enchanting tone and personally I loved it. I am not sure how much of the sound was the build or builder and how much was the woods used but I have to say it was spectacular. I compared it to some other combinations from the same builder at the same time and the Ziricote back and sides just had that something extra going for it. Maybe it was just a lucky build that all came together at the right time when the planets were in line... or maybe it is that Ziricote with Cedar just sounds that god to my ears. Yes, I picked up a Di Diorgio ' Spanish ' in a rural French shop one time when I was bumming about and it sounded The Full Orchestra. I was penniless- as it happens- but promised myself that I'd pursue a guitar which sounded that good. Maybe this will be it. There's a lot to be said for pagan gods and occult consultations in making a work of art... one delights to speculate She's got her pink abalone and bloodwood binding now and the bevels are cut and finished. Avalon tell me that the neck is in the hand-carving stage. If anyone is wondering why this build seems to be taking so long it's because I gave them free rein to work on it when they really felt inspired and without time limitations That's not to say that they're not inspired all the time - but she definitely won't be a Friday guitar.

Right, Charlie- she'll be a beauty.
The neck is unusual in that it's 47mm with a sharpish 10" profile and very tall gold Jasco FW57110-EVO fret wire. I've never actually played a neck with all those components combined yet so it's all in my head. It says a great deal for having a custom build .

Wow, really striking. If it sounds anywhere near as good as it looks it will be glorious.

That is figured wood to die for ... lovely looking piece of kit. And I'm sure it'll look even better when completed. Luck boy!

I've played a Lowden which played and sounded better than my ol' Albert but never an Avalon. Some folks say that Avalon have the edge . If that's true then it will be a glorious guitar indeed because that Lowden set a new standard for me. Sometimes one has to have faith. The Avalon blokes have given me plenty of that !
