Looks great Andy. I really like the body style (curvy bodies ) what exactly is it? grand auditorium? can't wait to see the finished product. Chris.

You can see the fan fret emerging here quite nicely. this is a relatively modest fan. I had no ice when I commissioned this how much debate and discussion there is about the fan layout and design, where the horizontal fret is and the extremes of the scales. For me the voice was quite pragmatic. I wanted more tension on the bass but the treble left more or less alone, when considered against my OM. The 1st string will probably never be tuned higher than D. I've played more fan frets since commissioning this that I had before and I've learnt some things. One of the most important is you need to think about the scale variation in relation to the tunings you use. The more dramatic the fret the more difficult the 'stretches' that are typical of DADGAD become. If you are primarily a DADGAD player you would want to take this into consideration. I'm not sure I would ever buy a pre-made fan fret from a store — if I did I would have to have spent quite a long time playing it to ensure I was comfortable with it. Of course, I'm assuming that this will be very comfortable almost by design! Not long now I guess!

Seems to be a newspaper stuck inside...
That for your audience...!
Looks the badger's tho. Love the Wenge fretboard. Sensuous looking beastie too. Looking forward to hearing this.
Hope the wait's not too bad.
Alasdair.

Hope the wait's not too bad. Alasdair. The fingerboard is actually Macassar ebony which has those patterns in it. The idea is to create a guitar in which the woods themselves provide the decoration. If you want bling I'm pretty sure Adrian is not your man :-) The newspaper is leading edge design theory. It helps keep the pickup signal in check and provides an important historical connection with the month of assembly.

Apologies.
I had Rory put Macassar facings on front and back of the headstock of the TBs for me. I kinda wish I'd gone for the fingerboards also. Maybe next time...
I agree, bling is not the thing. Woods are just too beautiful to attempt to cover up/outshine with Abalone, etc.

Well, I suppose there will be a next time :-) I said at the beginning of this that I buy a new guitar ever 15 years or so – I think that is a reasonably and restrained attitude. As (I think) Keith said this is an exciting process, so much so that I'm already thinking about commission 2 — probably a OO o O sized guitar.

This seems to be coming together really quickly (well as an outsider it does). It's looking great.
Do you have a builder in mind for the 0/00?
All the best, marcus
