Just hand over the cash and get it out of your system - I'm sure you'll feel better for it I'm with Michael! Keith

BUYING TELE ADVICE: I always have a good play, without the amp, to start with. It's a good way to pick up on any faults with the neck or general set-up. Any excessive buzzing or rattling, other than that caused by poor playing, should be investigated. The same with intonation. Most problems can be sorted out, with a good set-up. When amped up, just check all the knobs and switches are working and without being accompanied by undue noise. Then just see if it feels and sounds how you want.
VAPORISER: I tried one of these out, when I bought my last amp. PROS: Coolest looking amp ever. Good overall sound. As loud as you'd need. CONS: The controls are totally wacky and take getting used to. The Reverb is only really effective at lower volume. The Vaporiser effect, just turns everything on full, which is very very loud and would be only useable at a gig, or rehearsal room.
Hope that helps. Good luck Martin. Teles are very cool.

Thanks Graham, and thanks also to everyone else offering advice. I admit I was getting a bit sick of the notion since the guy supposed to be selling seemed very reluctant to respond to my emails. I saw the guitar on Gumtree, about 5 miles from me, at £500. A new one costs.£720, so I was keen to haggle a bit. He came down to £475, and I said ok as I really wanted it, but he has since refused to reply to my emails asking if I Could come and see it, and I'm afraid I was getting a bit irritated. I went into Glasgow today and while in I nipped in the GuitarGuitar to see what telecasters they had, and with the help and encouragement of my better half, ended up buying both a guitar and an amplifier It is most definitely now out of my system as it were, and I'm as excited as a child

Congratulations on beating that crisis and hope it's a real winning combination. Though we need to see and hear the results! Isn't it great for us lucky ones to have the encouragement of a better half in these situations. Mark

Cheers guys. I'm just putting a pic or two up so bear with me, but I didn't get a telecaster, although it is a Fender....
I also got a 'small' valve amp to go with it.

It's a Fender Pawn Shop Jaguarillo in candy apple red, with a Blackstar HT5 mini-stack.

It's a Fender Pawn Shop Jaguarillo in candy apple red, with a Blackstar HT5 mini-stack. Very Martin. Great for some shoe gazing indie stuff. And you can always get a Tele later as they are so different - smart move! Congrats, and have fun! Keith

That mini stack doesn't look very mini! I know, it's bloomin' massive! It's only 5w, but you'd never know it. I thought the boss would put the blockers on it cos it's so huge, but the other amps we tried just didn't compare. Tried the Fender Super Champ X2 and I wanted to like it more as it looks cool and is the right size, but unfortunately I tried the Blackstar first and it didn't compare well. It's a Fender Pawn Shop Jaguarillo in candy apple red, with a Blackstar HT5 mini-stack. Very Martin. Great for some shoe gazing indie stuff. And you can always get a Tele later as they are so different - smart move! Congrats, and have fun! Keith Shona picked it out Keith. I wasn't keen initially since I had my heart set on the tele, but she was right (as usual) It suits my playing style more (well, what I think my style might be), looks great, and surprisingly was available at a much reduced price,as was the amp.

Crikey, the last thing I thought I'd read about on this forum was people buying HT5's!

A few more pics now the new 'rig' and guitar are in place in my huge, expansive 'man space' . It sounds amazing...I just wish I remembered how to play anything that doesn't involve Travis picking

Nice one Martin. That's a very cool set up, you've got there. Blackstar make some top amps. The trouble with the Super Champ is, it lacks bottom end. The Jaguarillo should give you plenty of tonal scope, too. Are you going to use the whammy bar?
