Congrats Martin, and Lynn too! All the best with the new venture - looking forward to progress reports. That vid in your post was very Keith Thanks Keith Great stuff Martin. Those Busker guitars are supposed to be really good. I was considering getting one before I ended up getting the Gretsch. Talking of which, I let some guy play it at the session last night. He was pretty hammered and was playing it really hard - left it with splatters of blood all over it :-(. Got most of it off but there's stiill some on the cone which will need to wait until i'm changing strings - manky!! Cheers SDT Was the blood from the guy playing it?? That's horrendous! You beat me to it! I was giving serious thought to this guitar but... Serves me right. I hope you'll both be very happy. Alasdair. Thanks Alasdair. Glad I didn't hang about now I'd just like to chime in that the Bob Brozman instructional DVDs are really good for working your way into Delta blues, although he is insistent on using an actual bottleneck and wearing fingerpicks (in addition to a thumbpick). My experience is that you'll need to experiment to find the slide that's best for you (I've settled on a piece of metal pipe I've had around since electric days for playing blues, because I couldn't get enough 'grind' from a real bottleneck), and fingerpicks, in my opinion, suck big time as the kids say. If you're used to playing fingerstyle on a normal guitar with bare fingers it's not much of a big deal to use 0.13 strings or even heavier for slide without fingerpicks, especially tuned down. If the resonator bug really bites, I'd suggest looking around for a tricone to try out. These are really nice for playing non-slide in open tunings like G and D. There's something about the tone, a little less brash than a single cone, that makes it really enjoyable to get a rhythmic piece going. Mike Dowling is another musician/instructor well worth checking out whose range of material is a bit less restricted than Bozman in those DVDs. Kym Thanks a lot for this info and your recommendations, Kym. Much appreciated

He was hammering the thing pretty hard and must have cut his finger. It wasn't too bad, came off pretty easily. He was a nice lad, just a bit pished and over-enthusiastic with his playing ;-)

Nice one Martin, the Busker range are really good reso`s. Michael Messer has a beginners video on youtube. An introduction to Blues Slide guitar. It might be of use to get you going.Good luck.

Thanks Steve. I'll need to get a slide first - might try to acquire one today. I used to have a brass concave shaped thing years ago, but I've no idea where it is now. Ideally I'd like to play a bit of fingerstyle and slide mixed in. One thing's for sure - it isn't a strummer

I reccommend a nice heavy glass slide, I don't like the concave ones but I did like my tapered blue one (now broken ). Worn on the pinky (put your finger in the narrow end first) and long enough to cover all six strings 65mm. Now that I'm used to them, 2 metal finger picks and a plastic thumb pick. Have fun Martin, it is!

Cheers Toby and Keith! I looked at the Diamond Bottlenecks, but figured I should know what I want before I order something fancy (and expensive!)

I've had a good look at the slide guitar learning recommendations above, and have tried a few Bob Brozman DVD clips, but I'm not sure I'm getting what he's putting across, or maybe it's just that I don't really love his style of play.
I'll persevere with it, but I think I'm probably looking for a simple book/cd combo to get me started.

I found slide tab to be a bit confusing and maybe a bit overdone to begin with, once you get the flow going it's easier than it looks. Not that I have any, I understand that the Michael Messer DVD's are pretty good.
