There have been slide players who habitually use standard. Lowell George is the one who stands out, but i understand that Phil Beer of Show Of Hands does too. Once you realise that strings 1, 2 and 3 give a minor chord (E) in standard, and strings 2, 3 and 4 give a major chord (G) it all makes much more sense. Anoter variation is to use drop D. You can alternate the bass and resolve on the 1st string on the 10th fret.

I've found myself looking at resonators on eBay. I shall resist. I shall... Give in to the temptation. There are resos out there which are quite cheap because they've never been set up properly. I got my Paul Beard Goldtone for about half price. Hardly been played becasue owner couldn't get on with it. All it needed was a proper set up. SW.

Don't think we've had any Sam Mitchell on here so far:
And apparently Sam's dad played with these wonderful musicians:

Found this and had to share:
And here's the original:
What a life story!
I do believe a little known British beat combo from the 60s also did a version..........Wonder what happened to them?

This is wonderful stuff. He plays over here with Michael Messer with whom he has recorded. Once we're back to normal and they're touring again, it's well worth the ticket.

That second tune is beautiful - such lovely playing from both, and a beautiful touch on the slide. Good timing for some Michael Messer videos, as I've just bought a guitar off Michael - a fine fellow to do business with - and will hopefully be getting to grips with slide playing a bit more soon.

Michael Messer is a great guy to do business with and he runs a really friendly slide/blues workshop in Pocklington East Yorkshire mid November..

I'm currently trying slide in open G tuning. Still at the 'interesting and has possibilities' stage.
