I'm just starting work on a couple of OO size (14" LB) 13 fret to the body guitars, these are a very comfortable little guitar to play, the body shape is based on the Torres FE19 plantilla that I use for most of my classicals. They are usually slot heads, though one of these will be a solid head.
Here's one I made earlier!
One of the guitars is for a customer and will have:
B&S: Claro Walnut.
Top: Caucasian Spruce.
Neck: Laminated mahogany: (from an old Victorian Bed, so could probably tell a few tales!).
FB/bridge: Madagascan rosewood.
Binding/headplates rosette: Cherry.
First thing is to gather the components.
The second one is my 2015 just for fun guitar. The idea for it sprang from a conversation with Dave when I visited with Joe to hand over his prize guitar. Last year as you know Dave cut down the Port Orford Cedar, 'The Tree', in his front garden and Dave and I re-sawed some of the wood into guitar sets. I've wanted to make an all English guitar for some time, but have always been stymied but the lack of a good top wood, well thanks to Dave and his little chopper I now had some top wood from 'The Tree' that will work. I had a nice set of English Walnut for the B&S and Cherry and Walnut (my favourite cake) for the neck, and of course 'The Tree' for the top. I was a bit stuck though on the FB and bridge, then Dave came up with the suggestion of using Bog Oak, Dave's used this before so I knew it would work, so off to Timberline Tonbridge and back with some pieces of 5300 year old Bog Oak. I love the idea of a fingerboard older than the Pyramids or Stonehenge! I couldn't get any for binding so again Dave to the rescue and he sent me some, thanks Dave.
So I have everything together.
B&S: English Walnut.
Top: 'The Tree'.
Neck: Cherry and Walnut laminate:
FB/bridge/bindings/headplates: Bog Oak.
Hopefully visitors to Halifax will be able to see/play the end result.
Colin
