What?! No go-bar deck pictures?! This is not a proper build thread!!! Sorry R the F how about some spool clamps instead Box closed. I've applied a couple of coats of FP to the interior to deter moisture problems later in its life. As soon as the glue has cured its back into the dehumidifier as workshop levels are quite high at the moment.

You got there in the end, though, and a very neat job it is. I keep meaning to build myself one of these contraptions to keep my router vertical whilst routing out the binding channels but the thing I use, though primitive, actually seems to do the job - and I used it without modification for my carved archtops and it wasn't bothered by the re-curve. You do need to be brave and determined but it's never actually damaged anything. Of course, it's not my invention. This is where I borrowed it from. I always feel it's going to go wrong this time but I just seem to get away with it. Do you feel confident when using your set-up or do you have similar misgivings?

Looking good Francis. Must have been strenuous though - I see you even had to take your bra off! Keith

R the F Used a very similar arrangement in the past but not having a table mounted router it was awkward to set-up. Whereas for me this arrangement is easy to make small changes to the height of cuts and because I run off a bearing guide if I stray a little from the centre cutting line the depth of cut remains the same. The only dislike for me with the overhead set-up is the fact that the bearing initially runs at the same speed as the cutter and contact with the work piece has caused small indentations. The new platens though now have a brake preventing the bearing rotation when free but allowing contact rotation when in use getting over the indentation problem. The brake is a lolly-pop stick pressing lightly on the back face of the bearing.

Spent today machining and testing the new bearing guides - soon be cutting the rebates for the archtop bindings. Get the Fox bender out again tomorrow and bend the bindings ready...

Binding/purfling in. New bearing guides worked a treat - brake needs attention but I didn't get the marking from the guides this time, so the lighter, broader guide sorted that problem. Photos to follow...

Started fitting the neck today - Truss rod and two CF strips. CF strips bridge the neck / neck extn joint to add some extra stiffness there.

Looks so pale and pristine it seems a shame to have to cover it up with fingerboards and tailpieces and bridges... and sunbursts!
