More like early 80's when I was about. I have found the website and will be keeping a close eye on up and coming gigs.

Not a list, i have just booked to see Stefan Grossman at the ` Band on the Wall` in Manchester on 25th October. Never seen Stefan before, really looking forward to this. blimey Stefan is playing very close to me here in Halifax .......to say its a bit of a dead town it seems to do ok for attracting decent musicians

Well, in something of a late decision, I've just been given 2 tickets to see Leonard Cohen tomorrow night in anchester!
Can't be bad...

Folk On at the Manchester Comedy Store ... An afternoon gig (3pm start - the venue is, after all, more renowned for stand up than music and there was a full bill in the evening). This trio were new to me but I was encouraged* to go by some of the young people with whom I work and, I have to say, I rather enjoyed it. The songs are all, I think, self-penned and the mujsicians know their limitations. Edmund (guitarist) doesn't try to do anything to fancy on the guitar and Donald (guitar, mandolin, penny whistle, low whistle and trumpet - though not all at once) is a little more accomplished but adds sympathetically to the mix rather than showing off whilst Derek (lead vocal and percussion) holds it all together. The songs are clever and witty, many have 'sing along/audience participation bits', and the introductions are usually longer than the songs themselves. A few times they had to remind themselves that it was a 3 0'clock show so their introductions were toned down a bit but they're worth seeing if you get the chance. This video (and there are plenty more) is from a festival gig in 2011 Dad, I'm In Love With A Morris Dancer
