It's kind of reassuring to know that it's not just R the F who suffers the occasional setback Don't worry, Dave - the boys will probably whup Arsenal on Saturday then lose to Burnley next week. Kinda sums us up this season!

Annoyingly the heel developed a split and so the old one was removed and a new piece of Lawson’s Cypress glued on using hot hide glue: Excellent use of the passive voice and the intransitive verb "developed" to avoid responsibility for the mishap - and an excellent recovery without shedding a drop of sweat. It still seems to be steaming ahead at a rate of knots - not that the "Tree" had any knots, of course.

When the glue is dry the heel cap is scraped and sanded flush:

Thanks Gavin. I’m going to be making the bridges for “William” and “Nancy” at the same time so “Nancy” needs to catch up. Apart from not having a cutaway, the processes for re-making “Nancy” are similar to those I’ve shown for “William” so rather than subjecting you to deja vu I’ll just show the key stages with “Nancy”. Here’s “Nancy’s” completed rim-set:

I'm pleased Nancy will not be having a mastectomy.

“Nancy’s” Rio Rosewood back has been laminated with Birdseye Maple veneer, the Lawson’s Cypress ladder braces profiled to a 10’ radius and then glued on using hot hide glue. The back braces are then carved and the back is “voiced” – here’s the result: The linings are notched to accept the brace ends and the back is glued to the rim-set using fish glue:

Why laminating the back?

“Nancy’s” top has been braced, the braces carved and the top “voiced” and signed – here’s the result: The linings are notched to accept the brace ends and the top is glued to the rim-set using fish glue:

Here’s Nancy’s box after the Bird’s Eye Maple bindings with b/w/b side/top/back purflings, have been installed, scraped and sanded flush and the fingerboard extension slot has been cut.

Funny how the bindings make it look so sturdy. Nice work.
