Sam, Thanks. Lovely to see you here again. 16 instruments is a great achievement - nothing to be ashamed about at all

When you get a nice, relatively low humidity day like today then you have to "Carpe bracing diem" and go on the bracing race of the top to close up the box. First the spalted beech back strips are glued in using hot hide glue: Now for the top. The Lutz spruce top X brace cap is glued on using hot hide glue: The brace behind the bridge-plate is then glued on: Then the tone bars are glued on: Followed by the finger braces: The braces are carved and the top “voiced”. Then the top is signed and dated: The linings are notched to accept the brace ends and the top is glued to the rim-set using fish glue: Phew

...and you managed to get your photos developed and printed and the text written up and all before sun-set. I'm impressed. What time did you say you got up this morning?

You've just got to invest the time and trouble in training the Tone Faeries wonderful work Dave! what does the signature mean? Thanks Bernd. It means "One hundred stringed instruments later . . ."

Well done, Dave. Fascinating insight into the guts of a guitar.

Go raibh maith agat Vinny. The Madagascan Rosewood bindings are taped together with the side and top/back purflings and are then bent to shape in the Fox-style bender: Next the top binding channels are cut using the binding jig to the depth of the bindings plus side purflings. The channels are stopped just short of the end-graft. Purfling pieces are stuck using double-sided tape over the end-graft. The binding channel is then cut over the end graft with the jig riding on these so that the depth cut is just that of the binding. The end graft side purflings can then be mitred using a chisel: Then the back binding channels were cut using the same process: Next the router is set to cut the top purfling channels and these are routed out. The top binding, side and top purflings are then glued in using fish glue: The process is repeated for the back:

Cooking on gas, Dave. I love the look of the central strip in the back.

Thanks Leo - it does look nice When the glue is dry the bindings and purflings are scraped and sanded flush. The side soundport is then cut together with the pocket for the fingerboard extension in the top:

The heel has a slot routed for the threaded inserts and is then glued to the neck shaft using hot hide glue: The neck cut to fit the body, the position for the threaded inserts in the neck heel are marked and drilled and the inserts fitted with epoxy: After some initial shaping of the heel the neck is bolted on to check fit:

I’ve been away on “granddad/granddaughter” duties but am back in the shed again now. The Madagascan Rosewood heel-cap is prepared for spalted Beech inlays forming the number 100: These are then glued in: Holes are drilled in the neck heel for two 6mm carbon-fibre rods which are then glued in using fish glue: The Madagascan Rosewood heel cap with black/ pear/ black veneers is then glued on to the neck using hot hide glue. The heel cap will be finally shaped when the neck is carved:

The Madagascan Rosewood fingerboard is marked for the frets and the slots cut in this jig: Then the fingerboard is tapered and the end routed to match the soundhole curve: A piece of the Madagascan Rosewood binding with b/w/b/ purfling is bent on the hot pipe to follow the soundhole curve and is then glued to the fretboard in this jig: The Madagascan Rosewood bindings with black/ pear/ black purflings are then glued on using fish glue: The positions of the inlaid side/front markers are marked on the fretboard and routed with a 2.5mm bit using this jig: The Spalted Beech markers are then glued in and the fretboard levelled. Here’s the result: The fingerboard is then glued to the neck using fish glue:

Back from your "duties" with renewed energy by the looks of it. Great progress.
