francis, if this is the "I want a Gibbo lookalike" guitar for your friend's son, will he not want a pickguard? That's be a real shame cos I love your rosettes but he who pays the piper... Or have I got this wrong and he just wanted the shape?

The mould is now finished and I've bent the mahogany sides. The back plate has been joined with a central decorative strip. Inset photo shows the strip detail a little better.

Promised a few details on this build:
Based on a J45 (amalgamation of the plans in the Gore/Gilet book and plans from Georgia Luthier Supplies) Non cutaway Body length 514 Lower bout 409 (measured) Upper bout 289 (measured) Waist 267 (measured) Body depth at tail 120 Body depth at heel 100 Scale length 632 Soundboard: Lutz Spruce Back and sides: Mahogany Bindings: Lacewood Purfling (front) B&W herringbone Purfling (back) B&W diagonals Back strip: Chevron (see above images) Fretboard: Macassar ebony Headstock veneer: Macassar ebony Bridge: Macassar ebony Bracing (soundboard) X-braced - Sitka spruce (from 'The Book' plans) Bracing (back) X-braced - Sitka spruce (as earlier D28) Linings front and back: laminated Lime - three layers 2 x 18mm
Update: Sides have now been shaped to a 20 foot front radius and 15 foot back radius Back plate taken to an even 2.8mm thickness Soundboard joined and taken to 3.5mm thickness - will end around 3.0 central and 2.7(ish) sides once the rosette has been fitted.
