soundout, I have joined the Tone Dexter crowd! Have to say I'm very impressed. I trained the TD using a mic position in my room that I know works well. Very quick and easy. Using a good pickup (and I think mine is) the improvement is quite subtle but you really get that mic 'air' feel. And it feels natural and not an artificial digital sound. By far the best sound improvement I've found so far. I've a gig tomorrow and one at the weekend. I shall report back and will probably make some kind of You Tube video.

I look forward to hearing more about this! So, far I am very impressed. A doddle to set up. We'll see how it performs as a preamp. Playing through my AER at home it sounds more or less as good as a mic/pickup blend through my Headway. My only complaint so far is that it doesn't fit into the guitar case thingy box.

Andy, what's the power arrangement on yours? There is no place selling them in Oz, so I have nowhere to go to try one out.
Buying directly from the States probably means some sort of conversion device or plug to provide the DC power in.

KYm Not necessarily - many psu’s have a wide input voltage range so you may just need a local plug. For example the one for my Blackstar fly takes 100-240 volts. Glad you like it Andy! For a more dramatic microphone effect, do try different mic placements, not just the one which gets you a good recorded mic sound. I chatted to Charlotte Carrivick and she told me she ended up using a 12th fret or even an over the nut position. My own two guitars needed different placements to bring out their best. I’m just about to do an A/B test with my twin channel setup and will report back on my original post. Cheers Alistair

Cams I played my first gig with the Tonedexter last night. If you have a good room and set up for recording rah guitar then training the TD is a doddle. Listening to it back through my AER at home I thought the results were impressive but quite subtle. The trebles were much smoother and the bass more rounded — of course there was no piezo quack. Playing live was a different matter. The room had about 50 people in it, a reasonably nice space which only needs a decent guitar amp or small PA to fill it. When I plugged in and strummed to get a level the guy in charge of the sound just shouted wow! The sound seems remarkably good. It was very different and far more natural. It wasn't as easy for me to get the full effect as IO was playing without a monitor and I probably need to concentrate on the sound more, rather than on my singing. But this was by far the best acoustic sound I've had yet. I have another gig this weekend this time through a house PA. I'll report back next week and look to produce a You Tube video. The TD is also a mighty fine preamp in its own right, even without the digital tricks.

Good to hear Andy. I have a feeling there might very well be one of these in my future.

Good to hear Andy. I have a feeling there might very well be one of these in my future. I'll be testing mine out a bit more but first impressions are that this is an extraordinary piece of kit.
