I have several examples of cases from both manufacturers. There is no doubt that Keith Calton makes a fantastic case and is great to deal with. On the other hand I find the Hiscox Pro 2 to be an excellent product that does a great job at a fraction of the price. I generally prefer the Hiscox due to the noticeable difference in weight unless I'm flying when the Calton is the obvious choice. Of course the Calton has more street cred ;-)
Sad to see the business move overseas but understandable. At least, as I visit Austin every year, I should be able to get hold of a case if I want one.

Go very easy with the lemon oil. No more than once a year.
I use Planet Waves string winder/cutters every time I change string on my guitars, banjos and dulcimers. Saves loads of time and effort.

I want one that is modified so I can play it standing up, with a strap, like a guitar. I saw one once, I can't remember what was modified but it didn't look much different from a normal dulcimer. Hmmmm.... I have one of these: www.walkaboutdulcimer.comYou can hear it here: Cheers

For me it's going to be clawhammer banjo. I've borrowed a really nice open back banjo from my good friend Martin Simpson. It's a hand built banjer by the late great Barry Murphy. I've placed an order with Jason and Pharis Romero for a Romero banjo, but that is way down the line and I hope to somewhat more proficient a player by the time it comes along. It's great fun to start completely from scratch but also a little frustrating at times too. Cheers, Ian I've been "learning" banjo for a while. I have two, a Cedar Mountain A2 and a very recently acquired Wildwood Troubadour. I can use them as accompaniment in songs but have some way to go before I would perform a solo tune on stage. Lots of good stuff on Youtube. Recently acquired two mountain dulcimers and a 1920 Mandolin. They're next.

August 18th in Stockport. I'm hosting (and opening) a private house concert by Bonnie Bishop. She is the writer of the New York Times' 2012 song f the year, "Not Cause I Wanted To" which is on Bonnie Raitt's latest album Slipstream. You may have seen Bonnie Raitt performing the song on Later with Jools Holland a couple of weeks ago. This will be a very intimate event and a chance to see a rising star. www.bonniebishop.comSearch YouTube/not cause I wanted to/Bonnie Raitt for the Jools Holland video. Please contact for details. Quick reminder about this. It will be in Stockport. Very limited space left. Well worth seeing Bonnie, she's great.

Why buy new? You could get a much better quality used British or American all solid wood guitar at or near your price max. Where are you located?
