Anyone have any experience, tips, pointers on what to look for in a Mountain Dulcimer? There seem to be a few cheap ones out there which I don't fancy. McSpadden & Red Kite are available in limited supply in the UK, any others worth a look?

Vic, The first instrument I ever made was a dulcimer from a kit sold by Hobgoblin that I "customised":  I'm afraid I don't know much about ones for sale here but I'd quite fancy making another one. |

Beans! Spill 'em Vic! Keith Well, Dave is going to build me an 'Hourglass' Mountain Dulcimer, final specs tbc. But along the lines of European Spruce over Sapele, 25.5" scale, 6 1/2 fret diatonic layout. It will of course be very special. This won't come together for a couple of months so more info when we get to the build stage. Cheers |

I want one that is modified so I can play it standing up, with a strap, like a guitar. I saw one once, I can't remember what was modified but it didn't look much different from a normal dulcimer.
